  • Turn on a dime and give a nickel change (per my husband)
Size: 18 Inch Style: Swing-away Elevating Leg rests
He had an Invicare chair that I had bought used. It was approximate 12 years old when I bought it and 21 years old now. Looked almost new when purchased but the bushings, etc., got bad and we couldn't find parts. Plus, getting it fixed will cost about as much as this chair, IF parts can be found or substitutes for parts found. The Invicare chair was super comfortable, but it was literally falling apart. I first tried to order an Invicare chair of similar price but it was out of inventory with no anticipated date so I ordered this one. He likes it very well--not as well as he'd like his 20 year old chair IF we could get it fix but still it passes muster. This one is not as heavy duty (20 years difference in construction) although it may be as strong. He loves the way it maneuvers. He is not, BTW, confined to a wheelchair, but he cannot walk more than 70 or 80 feet at a time. He propels himself and is not using the foot rests but they appear to be very durable. ... show more

  • A Good Deed Becomes A Headache
Size: 18 Inch Style: Non Removable Fixed Arms/Elevating Leg R...
I hate that I have to give this fewer stars because it could have been a really fine wheelchair. The style is great and it appears it would be very sturdy. Assembly was minimal, only the leg riggings needed to be attached. With a cushion, an average sized person could be comfortable for a good long while. HOWEVER, the one we received is very near impossible to close/fold up, and even more difficult to OPEN. I contacted the company who told me a couple of things to try (loosen the bolt a quarter turn, apply WD-40) which did not help at all. So they told me I needed to return it to Amazon for a replacement. When I contacted Amazon, I was informed that they no longer had any in stock but (if I decide to return it) they would give me a credit for what I had paid and I could buy one from any of the Marketplace Sellers- for more money of course. I try to avoid doing business outside of Amazon Prime for a number of reasons but especially on large items because the buyer must often pay the return shipping if there is a problem. At this point, my husband doesn't want to hassle with trying to box it up (the box was in rough shape on arrival- and I made it worse when removing the wheelchair to inspect for damage) and take it to UPS. He wants to just donate to a local center where it can stay in the unfolded position. In the meantime, I am uncertain about giving Drive Medical another shot. I'm leaning toward trying a different brand. ... show more

  • Sturdy, nimble and a very good value. Built to last.
Size: 18 Inch Style: Swing-away Elevating Leg rests
5 stars because it is sturdy and nimble, and so affordable!!! Easy to maneuver and fit in tight spaces although you might encounter narrow doorways (closets, bathrooms: measure to be sure). The leatherette seats are durable and low maintenance, the wheelchair grips are easy to manage and wheels about with little effort or strength required. You can use it for long periods of time without your arms getting tired at all. It looks and feels like a high-quality item, I am very pleased with the price. This is heavier than some of the other models, but I see this as a benefit, it feels durable and tough. No need to worry about the seat giving way if you land heavily when transferring into the chair, or if you are a larger person or have heavy medical equipment, this chair can handle extra weight easily, I've had no fear of it tipping or leaning, it's got a nice stability lacking in most other models. Constructed well, no rattling or loose joints. Nicely engineered. It's fairly "attractive" as wheelchairs go, it wheels about nearly silently. I'm using it for a broken leg and it's the best part of my injury, it's fun to wheel it around with precision and go faster than I ever walked. Worth every single penny. Yes, I've seen lots of other models, and some look and feel very fragile and unstable, not this one, it's built to last. ... show more

  • Good for a cheap chair.
Size: 16 Inch Style: Detachable Desk Arms/Elevating Leg Rests
We were looking for a narrow wheelchair to fit through doorways. The 16” wheelchair worked well. We have used it for five weeks. The chair is not the most solid, but it’s good enough. The one leg rest got stuck in the upright position, but customer service replaced it quickly. The leg rests are a little tough to get on. ... show more

  • Sturdy and Easy to Use
Size: 16 Inch Style: Detachable Desk Arms/Elevating Leg Rests
I had a wheelchair from this company before (through home health) and thought it was a good product. The one I was sent from another home health company this time around was inferior, so I bought my own. I'm small (5' 1", 107 lbs.) so I ordered the 16". The small size makes it much easier to maneuver. Had to have the height adjusted, but that was relatively easily done. I did have to order the brake lever extensions to be able to safely lock and unlock the brakes, as I found the original levers too short and stiff, otherwise I'd give it 5 stars. ... show more

  • Most important to know is customer service is absolutely great.
Size: 16 Inch Style: Detachable Desk Arms/Elevating Leg Rests
1st. Chair damaged. Replacement chair came undamaged. Customer service was very helpful. Chair a bit heavy and doesn't roll too good on carpet. But it is a huge help for my husband. This company is great. I wish they could get the first wheelchair back,. Too hard for me to find a box to fit as the box it came in was torn and damaged so bad. And I wouldn't be able to take it to send back. Can't use the first one, but the replacement chair is great. Thanks so much. ... show more

  • Great when I broke my leg but not for long term use
Size: 16 Inch Style: Detachable Desk Arms/Elevating Leg Rests
PROS: - easy to attach and detach arm rests - folds easily - fit in any car trunk I came across - not too heavy - enjoyed the pocket on the backrest CONS: - the wheels are hard and don't grip that well, which rested in sliding around a bit here and there - leg supports have a cheap plastic peice that brakes off along with the pads (not heavy duty) ... show more
