The Scout has all the great features you would expect in a full-size 3 wheel scooter for adults in a portable, travel- friendly model. Its smaller frame fits in almost any vehicle, and it assembles and disassembles easily and quickly. What Makes This Different When compared to other electric scooters, the Spitfire Scout 3 truly is the perfect scooter for your on-the-go lifestyle. When fully disassembled, the heaviest piece is a mere 29 pounds so toting this unit around is a breeze. The seat back also folds down making storage and portability of this unit nice and simple. The Scout comes with interchangeable color panels in red and blue and gives an impressive 9 miles on standard batteries. Why We Like It The Scout 3-Wheel has a tight turning radius for easy maneuvering indoors and out. The lightweight pieces are quick to assemble and compact for storage. The Scout works best on smooth surfaces like shopping centers, smooth sidewalks and asphalt as well as indoors. • Worked Great - until it didn't!
Thought we were upgrading when switching to this scooter, but 7 mos into it, and (per the seller) we're looking at $200 just to have someone tell us what's wrong with it. The manufacturer is being very helpful - not so much the reseller we purchased from. Hopefully this will end on a better note.

  • Good quality and a big help
I am in a 73-year-old man with some mobility difficulties. I recently purchased a Drive Scout three wheel scooter to assist me on long walks, uphill travel and vacation tours. Overall, my wife and I were very pleased with the experience and have found this scooter excellent to diminish fatigue. With taxes and delivery it cost slightly under $800 and in my opinion was a good value for the money. The vehicle seems sturdy and well-designed. PROS: the scooter comes apart into five sections, and the process of assembly/disassembly is easily learned. The heaviest single part is the battery which weighs about 30 pounds, and the base (which could be further disassembled into two pieces, but we found that this was not necessary to get the base into our Toyota Highlander without disassembly.) It is much easier to reassemble the scooter if another person helps. I might or might not have had difficulty doing it alone. The brakes worked fine although it took some getting used to the speed with which the scooter stops when you take your hand off the accelerator. Rapid stopping is useful in crowded situations and I learned how to slowly decrease my pressure on the accelerator to gradually slow down. Taking the scooter on an airplane flight is very easy and helpful. You can drive it all the way through the airport to the departure gate. The staff there needs to tag the scooter but then you can drive it right down to the doorway of the airplane. You simply leave it for the baggage crew and they will store it during the flight just as they do with baby strollers and other large items. It is quickly returned to you after you get off the plane. The seat was comfortable and the steering was relatively easy. I did not have a rear view mirror on this trip, but quickly ordered one when I got home since backing up without being able to see behind you is a problem. The turning ratio was very tight and it was generally quite easy to reverse direction by backing up once and starting out again forward. I found people to be quite solicitous of me as I drove it in various places and they often gave me the right of way. I weigh 188 pounds and the scooter carried me comfortably at all speeds including when I had a back pack strapped on and put a smaller suitcase under my legs on the base to carry it on the scooter. the speed control is responsive. After getting back from the trip, I wanted to purchase a cover, since it will be stored in my garage. A cover from the manufacturer cost $52 but I could go to Home Depot and get a barbecue grill cover that does the job for one quarter of the price. CONS: I did tip over once, but it was my own fault. I tried to take a shortcut from one part of the sidewalk to a second part at right angles with a grassy space in between. Halfway across on the diagonal, the scooter tipped to the side. I was not injured in any way as I landed softly on the grass. For future reference. I should not try to take shortcuts. Overall, the stability of the vehicle was fine, especially on level ground or going up and down hills. If you are going to be traveling frequently over rough ground (for example, cobblestones, dirt paths etc), one might consider a four wheeled model although this one will do nicely for the places that I generally use it. Any shock absorption is virtually nonexistent. After a single 10 day usage this has been a major help to me and I definitely would buy this model again. ... show more
