I had been using an old school but plain folding wheelchair for my 5' 2", 150 lb mom, used just for outings as she hasn't the strength to walk very far with her walker. I bought this lightweight version many months ago, and am still sending happy, grateful thoughts up to the designers when I use it. It now lives in the back of the RAV-4, held by some bungie cords so it's ready whenever. I'm grateful for the much reduced weight when lifting in and out of the car, the easy fold, and how compact it is, leaving plenty of space in the back of the car, grateful for the back wheel brakes - how brilliant is that!. The way the back folds down helps with the compactness. I would make one suggestion to the designers and 2 caveats to prospective buyers. To the designers, I would make the foot platforms fold down closer to each other. My mom's feet slip out too easily. To prospective buyers: my mom JUST fits in this one. It is very narrow. I believe there is one larger size. However, its profile allows much easier maneuverability, through doors, and down store isles which is a result of the narrow seat AND the placement and relative size of the wheels. The other disadvantage is that the chair's wheel size and weight do not make it ideal for covering very rough surfaces - bumpy concrete or earth/yards. The traditional design gets her over bumps and door thresholds easier and with more comfort for her. But it is a great improvement overall.

Great Transport Chair (See Dimensions)

What a great purchase. I have a bathroom door that is exactly 24" wide and the narrow portion of the door frame is 23.5". There is plenty of room to spare on either side. We took the door off but the chair would fit without doing that. Very easy to roll on hardwood, tile and carpet. Has good locks on the rear wheels that can be engaged and disengaged with the foot so you don't have to bend over. The front wheels don't lock which makes it easy to move out the way since they still roll when the back wheels are locked. The widest portion of the chair is 18.50". From rear wheel bolt head to rear wheel bolt head. Suggestion to the designer is add another rail underneath the padded cushion arm rest. My 85 year old mother does not have the strength to lift herself due to the arm rest being so high. See the photo. Where the yard stick is it would be nice to have another rail to shorten the length of lift that she has. I need to get a 4" cushion and that will solve my problem. The arms fold down making it easy to store. I would not use this chair down a set of stairs like I use the wheelchair to roll her down two steps I have at home. Ramp to be built soon. What an awesome purchase.

Decently designed chair light and easy to use.

The chair is lightweight and very easy to move around. It comes fully assembled except for the feet rests, which just slide right onto a few small pins. Overall, a decent wheelchair. I only have 2 issues with it: 1. The leg rests can be locked in place in the front of the chair or, they can be unlocked and swung off to the side. The problem is, there is no way to latch them to the side, so they swing freely. I would have liked a latch to hold them in place on the side of the chair. 2. Minor issue, but I would have liked a pouch or something on the back of the chair to hold things in. But that may just be my own issue, not paying close enough attention to the posted info on the chair.

I needed a travel chair for a 55 lb./45inch child who can’t walk great distances. PERFECT. Smaller profile push chair and the foot rests work well. It handled easily through airports and touring Washington D.C. I wasted money on a review- recommended cushion that didn’t fit. Child fit well in chair and said it was comfortable. It is lightweight and folds up and down easily. (but watch your fingers). It folds to fit flat in the trunk of a smaller car. I bought a wide luggage belt to wrap it when folded and an accessory bag that loops over the handles. Very pleased when my only other option was a $500. Special needs stroller!! Came exactly as described.

Great chair to travel with

Purchased the transport chair for mom (89 years old with parkinson's) on a trip to Seattle. We used the chair through Homeland security and to the gate when we folded the chair for storage under the plane at the plane's door. It seems that the chair was easy for the gate attendants to bring the chair back up to the gateway upon arrival. Only concern was that the flight attendant suggested we take off the foot rests and bring it with us for storage in the overhead bins because it may be easy to separate from the chair during the process of storing the chair under the plane. The chair was already assembled with the brakes firmly in place without the need for any adjustment. The other transport chairs I purchased required adjustment and parts would often come loose with wear and tear. This chair was great! We walked six blocks from our hotel to Pike's Market on the sidewalk and went to many restaurants (diners and fine dining) without any problem. It handled the street curbs and sidewalk cracks easily. The chair was also light enough to move around within the restroom stalls. The high back also made the chair comfortable for mom. This chair went through a lot wear and tear during our 8 nights in Seattle and I did not have to adjust anything because no screws or clips became loose.

Perfect all around

I used a full size transport chair to move my father about his house and for taking him out to appointments, restaurants, ... for many years. This chair is smaller and perfect for smaller person. My wife is 4' 7" and weighs 90 something pounds maybe. We have a narrow door to the master toilet... no problem for this chair. Standard size doors and walkways are much easier to navigate than they would be in a standard size chair. This chair is also lighter and since it is smaller it fits easily in the back of our small SUV... Hyundai Tucson. Easy to use for going out and about. Now, I am 5' 6" and twice the wife's weight. I can sit in this chair if I am not wearing bulky clothing. If you expect to sit in any transport chair for long periods of time... get a cushion. Purple makes a great one, thin, light. Comes with a spare cover.

I think if you know what you are getting into here it is a great product. My mother can walk but not long distances and sometimes has balance issues. This has added freedom and flexibility to her day which has been a godsend to her and to us, at a very reasonable price. She seems comfortable in it generally for about an hour or two for a trip to the mall, doctor, etc. My only warning is to use it carefully. Be sure to put on the breaks when helping someone into it or out of it and go slowly over thresholds and the like. The chair is collapsible so is intentionally light; care must be taken when using it not to go too fast and be sure that the person does not "plop" down in the chair as it can tip easily backwards if you are not holding it. So, knowing that, and assuming you are taking proper care, it is a very helpful tool in caring for your family member. By the way, this was all mentioned in the manual that comes with it. On a final note, my mother is of normal weight for an older woman; I would not recommend this for someone who is extremely overweight, I do not think it would feel sturdy enough.
