This is 100% worth the money and time. I have a Grizzly combo mill/lathe and added the digital read out made it more accurate and useful. Like most cheaper mills, the backlash on my grizzly was noticeable and made tracking by the dials really hard. The readout only picks up true movement so now I am much more accurate. Every mill is different so don’t underestimate the installation time. You will want metric tap set and accompanying drill bits. Fine for an inexpensive unit

As a few have said, they hardware they send with the scales didn't work for my installation, but after installing many different brands of DROs on many different types of machines it really wasn't a problem that was unexpected. It would be nice to cut the precision down to three decimals for quick work, but that too isn't a major factor. The units I received didn't require any compensation. So far so good. ... show more

It's a DRO; what's to say?

My experience began with interpreting what I judged to be a cryptic set of instructions for ordering the correct lengths. Once I broke the "code" I was able to order components that I could adapt to my installation. Shipment arrived well packaged and, even though the shipper did their best in trying to damage some of the packaging, the good job of packing from the supplier prevented damage to the components. My installation involved a mini mill so finding a means for installing the DRO took a LOT of advance planning. I did find it necessary to fabricate brackets for my installation as none of the installation hardware that came with the kit met my needs. I must admit that, even with planning, some of my ideas didn't work as well as I had hoped but I did eventually find the right combination of fabricated accessories to make it all work. This is not something I'd recommend for the novice. It is not a custom fit and, regardless of the individual set up or any shop, it will require some imagination and understanding of mechanical systems to make it work. Best DRO for the money. Works well and the cost can't be beat.

I took quite a while shopping for a DRO and finally decided to get this one. So glad I did. It works perfectly on my Grizzly Mill. Since there is really no standard for mounting, they give you a number of pieces to work with. For the money this set is great.

Not Industrial quality, Very Good Value for home or hobbiest.

Display is bright and clear to read. DRO display feels light. Probably due to traditional size and large buttons with newer smaller internal electronics. Everything assembled well enough. Anyone buying one of these will be using it for various machines. The linear encoders come with brackets. These are pretty worthless, so be prepared to fabricate your own for your purposes. I don't know about long term but so far after a few weeks I have no issues. The aluminum flex shielding on the encoders is light but will prevent the wires from rubbing through for some time. The slide on the encoders is chrome plated plastic not metal. I give it 5 stars not because it is superior in every way, but because the combination of display and sized linear encoders was perfect for my application. Given alternatives would cost 2 - 3 times more , I think this is a very good value. Also very modular. If one piece fails then replace just that piece. Difficult to set up.

This DRO should be installed by an expert. The scales are metric, so when the read out is switched to inch it doesn't display correctly.

First, customer service was easy to work with to confirm correct scale length requirements. The kit came with lots of mounting brackets and hardware, all easily modified for my application. I even did the "Z" axis. The "Y" axis required some ingenuity. I made a drill jig for the holes out of scrap steel to keep my holes straight. Use sharp bits! I'm very happy! It took awhile to adapt it to my machine, but the scales I received were the correct length and with a bit of work I got it all mounted to my mill/drill. Seems to work great and I am looking forward to many projects.
