For anyone who has to fight the same battle we do that results from long-haired family members in the house, these are basically the same thing as others I've previously purchased at stores to clean out bathroom drains. They work a treat, just stick them down in the drain, wiggle them about a bit, then pull the results out and dispose of them. I'm not sure if this is the perfect product for my needs, or just cheap trash. The Drainsoon 30 Inch Sink Snake is made of injection molded plastic which gives it a natural weak spot right where it needs strength the most. I'm not entirely sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. On the one hand, they're cheap enough that you don't mind throwing them away when they break, which is good because nobody wants to clean the tool that has been used to pull gobs of hair and conditioner and who knows what else out of a bathtub or sink drain. On the other hand, if it breaks while the snake is deep in your drain, it could be very difficult to get it back out. Also it just really annoys me when something breaks the very first time I use it! It happened so quickly, and in just the right spot to make it useless in the future, that I sincerely wonder if it wasn't intentionally manufactured to do just that. These days, every manufacturer from cars to refrigerators to computers helps maintain the market for their product through planned obsolescence so why not the makers of drain snakes, too? Now, I don't like our disposable culture. I don't like throwing non-recyclable waste plastic into my local landfill. I'm a bit old fashioned, and I really feel like when you buy a tool you should be able to use it for years. You can get 1/4 inch, 25 foot long pipe auger for less than $20, and it will last you much longer than these three flimsy little plastic snakes. Having said all that, it's important to remember that most drain clogs happen in the trap, which is that bendy pipe right underneath the sink. The Drainsoon 30 Inch Sink Snake is the perfect length to get to those clogs. It's stiff enough to break them up and the little barbs are sturdy enough to catch hold of hair clogs and pull them out. If you can't clear your drains with one of these, then there's every chance in the world that someone in your household is putting things down the drain that don't belong there. I've lived in my current house for 7 years, and this is the first time I've ever needed to snake a drain. Three of these snakes cost about one third the price of the cheapest pipe auger. Distributing that cost over the 21 years it could presumably take me to use and break all three, it works out to less than 50 cents a year. Moreover I don't have to clean these when I'm done with them, they can easily be stored in any drawer, and they solve my problem. I'm still not 100% sure whether these are trash or treasures, and I'm still not wild about throwing away plastic garbage when they break. I'm definitely going to find a way to cut or break the ring in the handle so if it ends up in the ocean it doesn't kill a turtle, but now that my bathroom sink drains quickly and cleanly, I'm definitely leaning more towards treasure. ... show more

This is a nice long set of three sink clog removers. The serrated edges allow the device to move through the material and then grasp it when pulling back out of the sink drain. The loop at the end makes it easier to grab and pull though sometimes a little back and forth motion is required to get it out of the drain. I used in my bathroom tub as I have daughters with longer hair which helps it clog easier and my drain also has a cross shaped form to it that prevents larger items from being used to grab the clog. Having a set of three is great to either keep one in each bathroom and or to give one to a friend. ... show more

    • They work, but not perfectly
I got a set of these to try out to see if they could open up my slow-draining bathroom sink. I eventually managed to get the snake into the drain, but it was a struggle, and no matter how I tried I couldn't get it all the way through the trap and into the main line. The main issue I found is that they're just not that flexible, so getting them to twist around the curves in a trap takes some work, going back and forth and feeling what the end is doing. I ended up having to give the tip a kink to get get it to go around the curve. I'm sure there's a tradeoff to be made between making them flexible enough to bend around curves versus stiff enough to be able to push them through, but with these they just seemed a bit too inflexible, at least for my plumbing. I also used one on my bathtub and had even worse luck getting it through the lines. On the other hand, they did do a good job of pulling hair out of the drains. Even though I could only get the snake a short ways into the tub line it pulled out a lot of hair and significantly improved how the tub drains, so I'm giving them 4 stars for achieving what they were meant to do, even if it was a bit more difficult that I had hoped it would be. I think if they could make these round, instead of flat, they might work a bit better. ... show more

    • Good to have on hand but why are they sent this way?
As has been noted by other reviewers, these come folded in half and, since the material is rather stiff, they are not easily straightened out. I can't imagine why the company chooses to do it this way. The product is made of sturdy material so I think they will last a good long time. I have used them to fish around in a sink that, while not clogged, was needing some cleaning out. They worked sufficiently. When I have a heavy duty clog that requires attention, I'll post an update. They are inexpensive enough that it seems to me to be worthwhile just to get them to have "just in case." ... show more

These work great for unclogging bathroom sinks that tend to clog up with hair. Just stick it down the drain, wiggle it a little to get as far as possible and pull it out. It comes back up with all the nasty stuff that was slowing the drain down. Throw it in the trash and wait until the drain clogs again. These are cheap and disposable, I wouldn't bother trying to reuse them. The five bucks will probably last me a year and a half to two years before all 3 are gone. ... show more

I was surprised how much hair was actually in my drain. Its me and my Two daughters that have long hair, and it was a TON! The hair was so stuck to the snake though, there is no way that you can easily or sanitarily clean off the snakes. It doesn't bother me at all that it is a one-time use.
