Honestly loving this machine for a total beginner. It has evening in the photo. The skin is trash so if you get this make sure to also stock some 3mm skin. You can’t adjust the stroke on this but you can adjust the needle hang. Unfortunately there aren’t any numbers to tell how far out the needle is.

This beginner tattoo kit impressed me across the board. From ease of use to build quality, it strikes a compelling balance for anyone starting out. It delivers strong value and functionality without overwhelming complexity, making it ideal for hobbyists and even apprentices beginning their craft. Right out of the box the kit felt ready to work. The pen machine has good weight and balance so it feels comfortable in the hand. It is easy to manoeuvre which matters a lot when you are still developing muscle control and steady lines. The included components were thoughtful and sufficient for practice sessions, which means you do not need to supplement heavily to get started. That convenience alone adds to the value. In actual sessions the machine performed smoothly. Line work was consistent and shading was acceptable for the learning curve. The motor ran without noticeable vibration or noise that distracts from the process. I found control over depth and ease of manoeuvring around curves and corners to be better than many beginner kits I have experienced. That part stood out. That said a few limitations are worth noting. While the kit is very capable for its class it will not match high end studio machines in terms of durability or extra features. If you plan heavy daily use or more advanced styles you will eventually outgrow it. The materials are solid but don’t feel premium in every component. The accessories included are fine for practice and early sessions but serious work may require upgrades. For someone learning the craft the kit hits the mark perfectly. It lets you focus on technique rather than fighting poor hardware. The smooth operation means you can develop confidence and skill without constant hiccups from gear. If you know your goal is to progress through training and build skill this is a smart choice. In summary this is a strong entry level tattoo kit. It offers excellent value for someone learning and does so with reliable performance and a straightforward setup. It is designed for hobbyists and apprentices rather than professional studio veterans, but in that space it shines.

This kit comes nicely packaged in a Dragonhawk branded sealed box, in a plain brown taped box. This makes a decent presentation as a gift. The kit comes with all the usual accessories, needles, black ink, cups, stencils, practice skin, et cetera. I found that Mast and Dragonhawk kits come with very good quality accessories. The ink is good for actual skin. The included needles are very good, sharp, easy to maneuver, do not spit and holds a good amount of ink. This box has 10 liners and 10 shaders. The A1 Pro machine is decent quality, compared to similarly priced kits. The machine is well balanced and handled fine. It is a fine choice for beginners, though you could find a similar priced pen with more features. A disadvantage of the pen is the proprietary battery attachment. It twists in but is a connector model, not an RCA, so the battery only works with this pen, and other Dragonhawk batteries will not work with this one. I have another Dragonhawk machine and the grips are also not interchangeable. The battery is decent and the display is ok to read. In comparison to my other Dragonhawk, the Atom2 Pro, this one is noisier and vibrates more. However, this one is half the cost. Still, if you can afford roughly double the cost, you could get a better pen with more features, and an extra battery and parts that will work with other models. If however, you need to stay in the fifty to sixty dollar range, this is a decent choice.
