The power-efficient heat pump pool heater is electric powered with an input requirement of 208 - 230 Vac. The non-corrosive design makes this unit ideal for all environments including coastal climate, maintaining the swimming pool at an ideal consistent temperature. Extending the swimming to all year long. The Dr. Heater heat pump is designed with industry-leading technology for top performance and stability. Our Full DC Inverter fan motor and compressor can adjust heating capacity between 20% - 100% for the most efficient operation. The compressor is designed with a twin rotary that operates together to balance the movement of each other for anti-shaking, which is higher efficiency, lower vibration & quieter operation. To reduce the compressor noise even further, the compressor is encapsulated by an acoustic-suppressing cover. Review Updated from 1 to 3 stars Mariana from support deserves credit and should be mentioned first. She was the person who ultimately provided the correct information and helped resolve the issue. Because of her assistance I was able to confirm that the heater does in fact do what one would reasonably expect from a roughly 3000 dollar heater. Once properly configured the unit can be set up so the dry contacts on P1 and P2 open and close correctly and the heater functions as intended. That said the overall experience was still poor. The written instructions are inadequate. Important details about advanced programming automation behavior and dry contact configuration are not included in the standard documentation. Instead users are expected to infer behavior from vague language or hunt through video content. That is not acceptable for equipment in this price range. The process to correctly configure P1 and P2 was far more difficult than it should have been. This was not a wiring issue. It was a documentation issue. Mariana deserves a five star rating for competence and persistence. Dr Heater as a product and documentation experience deserves a two star rating. Complete and clear written instructions for all operating modes and advanced configuration should be provided upfront. Customers should not have to rely on support staff or videos to understand core automation behavior. ********************************************************************************************************************************** This heater is deeply misleading if you expect it to function as a standalone, temperature-controlled system or to manage a pump in any meaningful way. Despite what the documentation and customer support suggest, this unit does not provide any temperature-based output or contact that changes state when the target water temperature is reached. There is no terminal that opens or closes based on “heat satisfied.” The heater simply shuts off the burner internally and leaves all external contacts unchanged. Terminals 5–6 are input only. They do not report temperature or heater status. They merely allow or disallow heating when controlled by an external automation system. The so-called pump contacts P1/P2 are described in vague terms, but in reality they are just a dumb dry contact tied to heater enable, not temperature or heating demand. They do not open when the setpoint is reached. They do not turn a pump off. They remain closed even when the heater is no longer heating. This was confirmed both by meter testing and by support responses once pressed. Customer support was inconsistent and contradictory. I was initially told that contacts would change state based on temperature, then later told they were “not a switch,” then told to “use wireless” or “use automation” with no clear explanation of what that actually means. “Use wirelessly” appears to be a catch-all phrase to deflect responsibility to a separate automation product that is never clearly disclosed as mandatory. The real truth is this: this heater assumes you already have a full automation panel (Jandy, Pentair, Hayward, etc.). Without one, the heater cannot shut off a pump at temperature, cannot manage circulation intelligently, and cannot operate as most homeowners would reasonably expect. If you are looking for: a heater that can directly control a pump a heater that shuts everything off when the desired temperature is reached a true standalone solution This is not it. Given how unclear the documentation is and how evasive support becomes when questioned directly, I seriously question how many positive reviews come from users who have actually integrated this unit beyond “it turns on and makes heat.” Buy this only if you already own a full pool automation system and understand that the heater itself provides no temperature-based control outputs. I rarely review things....but this has to be the worst product I have purchased . My pool is way under the max rating (12k, they say 18k)....it's been fairly warm out ...70s and 80s... I have literally done everything to make it run as efficiently as possible. Even crazy stuff like pushing very warm propane heated air ...and humidity (which it wants) into it... it could make a cup of hot tea ! Could not be more dissatisfied. Ran it for days and days ....covered the pool, etc.... do not buy ! ... show more
