This hen saddle is feathers down the highest quality and best functioning I have used in 4 decades of keeping birds. The cost is WELL WORTH IT because you will buy it once and use them forever. As you can see from the photo, my girls were getting pretty beat up, I bought some cheaper alternatives and after a couple of days they ended up torn up, in the dirt all over the yard. Then I found these! The photo above shows the new feather growth coming back in after ONE WEEK! The ladies don't mind them at all, the wing covers are AWESOME! They really are exceptional at protecting their wings, stay on and don't impede self grooming or dust bathing. I really can't say enough good things about this product or company. I ordered one 4 pack to try them out and then came back to order two more 4 packs. Most of my hens are larger but my Cream Legbar in the photo with the pink saddle is barely bigger than a bantam and she is wearing the same size saddle with the strap on the smaller setting, fits perfectly and she is completely unbothered by it. If I could give this product more stars I would.

I love these for my girls. They keep them protected from the rooster. Extra bonus is to have the shoulder protectors. They are durable and made well. The hens and rooster don't seem to mind them at all. They are easy to use after watching the video.

Been looking around for something to save the girls back from my horny Rooster.......Lol he's in his teenage years and getting Wild but I found these and read up on them and they were the best one's out there by far. I ordered 5 of them and they came in assorted colors which is fine with me, they were easy to put on the girls and fit very well and they got used to them pretty quickly didn't take long at all. But the best part is that my crazy rooster isn't rubbing off all their feathers anymore and they are finally starting to grow back. They are very well made, sturdy, Breathable material and don't bother them at all. Thank you very much for this great product you came out with it does save the girls and feathers do grow back. Would Recommend to any Chicken owner or Raiser. Use Down Under don't use the knock off's use these's !

These are the absolute best saddles I’ve purchased to protect my girls backs. Since they are adjustable, they fit my smaller Cream Legbars that are about 4lbs up to my Brahmas and Buff Orpington’s that are about 6.5lbs, excellent! The canvas material is not flimsy like others I’ve purchased. My girls adjust to them quickly and are able to move around freely. You pay a little bit higher price, but you get what you pay for and more. The only thing I’ve noticed a few times is when I throw out scratch in the evenings and the girls are running around with their heads down for a bit, they will sometimes flip up on their backs, but once they’re heads are back up and they’re running around like normal, the saddles will go back down on their backs on their own. Overall an excellent product! And, the optional wing protector is a perfect fit too when you need the additional protection.

Needed something to help the backs of my hens, but soon after discovered a lice issue. I thought lice eggs somehow got along the stitching, but just wear. Stitching was still solid. Very stiff fabric, for durability. The fit was great & the hens wore them well. I removed them when I thought they were dirty & was worried the hens couldn’t preen like they wanted to. Such a debate but I feel like these were a waste of time in the end since lice kinda threw in a wrench & im not sure I could get much use out of them.

Almost 10 months of continuous heavy use on one of my standard Cochin hens and it finally got a hole in it this week. She was comfortable in warm and cold weather, her damaged feathers finally grew back, and no parasite issues or rub marks. Highly recommend it! She was able to dust bathe normally and get dirt under it as well. Bonus entertainment value - after I put it on for the first time, the other chickens were a bit spooked by it and ran away screaming, and the hen wearing it ran after them assuming she should also be running from something. This did not go over well with the rest of the flock. They calmed down after a few minutes with no lasting trauma.

One of my hens, Nancy, was missing most of the feathers from her back, and was looking like a hot mess. A couple of others were also starting to show thinning where their back feathers meet their tails, so I ordered a 4-pack of these saddles in assorted colors. They arrived quickly, and although Nancy isn't thrilled about being held, 2 of us were able to catch her, hold her, and get the saddle on her without too much trouble. Most of our birds are medium-size standard hens in a mix of breeds. It fits nicely on the smallest snap setting, and it covers all of the area we're concerned about. She flapped and protested for a minute when we let her go, but by the time we got the second saddle on the next bird, she was fine. We put the shoulder protectors on all of them, and so far they seem to be staying put. I like that these saddles are made from thick, somewhat stiff canvas-like material. I feel like they're thick enough to protect from further injury. They don't seem to limit or impair their ability to move around, stretch and flap their wings, preen the feathers they can reach, etc. I intend to take them off as they heal because I worry about them over-heating in the summer, and I want them to be able to properly dust bathe and groom themselves. Overall, these saddles are a good choice. I would buy more of the same if I needed them. The only thing I would change is that it might be better if the straps were elasticized. You want these to fit snugly, but not so much that you risk irritating under the wings. Elastic might be more forgiving, but we'll see how it goes.
