I didn't need the socket. The door on the cover broke off. When I bought the cover and bezel, I saw the tool, and socket. I bought them all and was I happy I did. Purchased this mostly for the tool. Amazon said it does not fit my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. It most certainly does fit. Biggest problem was getting the old one out.

    • Great tool if replacing a GM lighter plug
The tool worked great. You push the pins with the T shaped tool. You must force it a bit to be able to push both pins. Then you can try to pull the tool a bit but must remove it from the two little holes where the pins are. Then I used the same tool to pull the lighter socket from a different hole in the side of the socket. Worked great. The provided lighter socket works but didn't go all the way in and would get stuck leaving Bout 1/4 of an inch sticking out. I had 2 other lighter sockets from the yunk yard so I ended up using the used OEM sockets instead the new one provided with the purchase. Other than that, this T tool will help you replace a GM lighter socket with almost no hassle. I used for my 07 Avalanche and I replaced the two lighter sockets underneath the radio. The autoparts store sold the same tool for about $25, so paying $11 at Amazon was no brainer. Would buy again if needed. Recommend! ... show more

    • The Correct Tool and Power Socket for an Easy Fix on a 2nd Gen Xterra!

Dorman's website stated that this power socket (56457) wouldn't fit a 2006 Nissan Xterra but didn't indicate the 'correct' part number. However, I'd read posts that stated it was the correct part so I took the chance... IT IS THE CORRECT PART NUMBER! The provided tool makes the removal of the old power socket easier; the old power socket in my Xterra was a very snug fit so I took my time/was careful and it came out just fine. The new power socket was also a snug fit but just a little 'persuasion' and it snapped in flush. I tested it with several devices and as the picture shows, it works fine.     • Tool apparently works for 1997-2011 GM auxiliary power outlet removal, but socket isn't a great fit
There's a lot of confusion about these GM outlets, so I will try to clarify some of it, briefly. My 2005 Express van has two auxiliary outlets in the front dash (no cigarette lighter socket), both of which burned out over the years. I removed the lower dash panels so I could get the connectors off. They had voltage, so I knew it was the sockets. Even from behind, I couldn't get anywhere getting either socket out before, but this tool worked fairly quickly, though I did have to fight it some. You insert one side into one of the two small square holes inside the socket (which are filled with a black plastic tab) then leverage the tool into the other hole. After that, I had to twist it and pull slightly a few times to get the socket out. It's a series of small motions. So the tool does work, at least on mine, which is categorized as 1997-2011 GM auxiliary socket, so maybe will work on others in that range, can't say for sure. But the socket was NOT an exact match, I had to scrape down the black plastic collar some to get it inserted, and then it was loose, which I fixed by tightly wrapping some electrical tape around the assembly and pressing it into the hole. Bottom line, the tool was very helpful, but I ordered another socket ("General Motors, Receptacle, 25774623") for the other side. It looks like an exact match, from the photos, but haven't got it yet to know for certain. ... show more
