See my other review for the Ring Wired Doorbell. During setup, I found out that my old doorbell transformer was not powerful enough and needed to be upgraded. I honestly had no idea what a doorbell transformer even was before this project. 😂 Luckily, I had a handy friend who helped me replace the old one. Once the new transformer was installed, my Ring doorbell worked perfectly. If you run into the same issue with your Ring doorbell saying your transformer is not compatible, this is the replacement you need. Just make sure you have someone who knows what they're doing to help with the installation, because this is not something I personally would attempt without help. This transformer installs surprisingly easily—just remember to turn off the power at the circuit breaker unless you enjoy involuntary interpretive dance. Once the juice was safely off, installation took only a few minutes, and I immediately felt manly and accomplished, like I had just completed a small act of electrical wizardry. After wiring it in, my new doorbell fired up like it had been waiting for this moment its whole life. The video is crisp, the chime is confident, and the neighborhood is once again protected from the trolls, porch pirates, and other wandering mischief-makers that roam the suburbs. This was the 2nd of these I ordered because, I did not realize that the renovation workers had hit the 2 wires in the wall with a drill or similar and twisted and broke the cable. But it also shorted the wires coming from the transformer. The door bell had stopped working and I measured the voltage from the transformer and assumed that it was dead since the voltage was zero (AC). Well it was dead, but only because of the short. Since the short was not near the work going on, I did not consider that they had damaged it. I installed the new one, tested the doorbell (across the house and up stairs from the circuit breaker box. It did not work, and I went back and checked the transformer. It was warm, and in fact now put out zero volts again. THIS time I checked the resistance between the low-voltage wires that connected to the transformer and I saw they were shorted. After tearing up a few places on the wall, I found where the wires passed by where they were working, and I repaired the wires and spent more hours repairing the holes in the wall. SO WARNING: If thee transformer is not putting out any voltage, disconnect the wire and measure the resistance. I gave it 4 stars because it had no internal thermal overload cutout that would repair if load removed. But I don't know if any of the door bell transformers do. ... show more
