My dog had stitches on his hind leg, and this outfit helped during his recovery. However, I did have to undo the back portion to let him go to the bathroom. I purchased an XL. My dog is 30 lbs. It was a tiny bit loose, but that was better than being too tight against his stitches.

This is one of the best of all the cone free hot spot/wound protections. I've tried a several over the years. Pros-this one was the simplest to put on -protects the area from both him and other dogs or pts in the home -skin tight -happy dog Cons-skin tight (might irritate some wounds, especially stiches) -no zippers, ties or velcro straps (for me this is a pro too) -because it's a single piece some may find it difficult to put on or take off My dog is an 85lb tall staff mix. I bought a 3XL and it is a perfect fit even though it's a bit loose in hi hind end area. He gets so very depressed when he wears a cone that this makes him bright eyed again. ... show more

I measured my dogs length, girth, and height, and got the equivalent size based on the items description. When I received it and put it on my dog, it seemed that the item wasn’t long enough, and there isn’t much elasticity or give to the fabric, so when my dog tried to sit down or lie down, it restricted her back legs mobility and she looked uncomfortable and confused. I had to take it off and return it. Didn’t want to waste time getting the next biggest size in case the sizing was still inaccurate. Our Belgian Malinois weighs 67 pounds. I bought the XL. It fits great. She has stitches in her hip. She doesn’t lick her wound when she wears the onesie. She can go outside and pee or poo with it on because the design is wonderful. Her wound stays clean too. Great product.

This worked great after my 56 lb. pit/husky mix had ACL surgery. A little tough to get on being careful of her incision and her not falling over, but we did it. Washed well also. I recommend you have 2 so you can swap them out every few days to keep the incision clean.
