I recently had 6 of my grandchildren over for a sleepover. When bedtime came, my wife pulled out a foam mattress to pile kids on. The mattress was so bad that I would be ashamed to have it seen in my trash. The cover had big, ripped holes on both sides and stains all over both sides. We used this cover on a 6-inch memory foam mattress. It was not a tight fit going on, and there were two of us working carefully, but I made one false move and it ripped along the seam. Still, a little duct tape to repair it worked fine, and it still does the job. If there's a nighttime accident, I just wash the sheets and wipe the cover down with a disinfectant wipe, and we're good to go. This material is pretty thin; as you can see in the pictures, the mattress tag can be seen through the cover. It made some rustling sounds when we used it with the fitted sheet only, so I started using our old, worthless mattress protector over it (one of those hypoallergenic, vinyl-free jobs that was a little more plush and soft, but didn't hold back any liquids). You would probably get the same noise-reducing result by just doubling up on fitted sheets, or putting a mattress pad over the vinyl. When you unpack this thing, it will probably have that unpleasant smell that most vinyl products do... Just give it a few hours to air out, and it will be fine. The key to getting these bad boys on is to upend the mattress on its short side, then slowly and carefully - and I mean SLOWLY and CAREFULLY, like it was tissue paper - bring the cover down from the top. Two people are ideal for the job. If you have a bed-jumper, be warned: they'll eventually put rips into this thing. You'll either have to crack down on acrobatics, or let kids be kids and keep the duct tape handy. Ours was $8.71 at the time of purchase, and although it's not an especially durable product, it's still worth it in my opinion. It definitely beats trying to clean urine out of a spongy memory foam mattress (hint: you can't). ... show more

This would fit a much deeper mattress than my child has (with about five inches of space on top between the mattress and the sheet, so I should have looked closer into sizing details, but his mattress is fully enclosed nonetheless.
