These were used on ceiling registers. I bought larger ones than needed so I could control the overhang. I decided on 1/2" over on all four sides. I cut them to size and made small holes where the shutter knob and mounting screws were. So far, I am quite happy with how they cling to the registers. They certainly cut down cold air escaping through the closed registers and the room is noticeably warmer, with the cold air side a bit cooler. This is an inexpensive way to at least figure you're doing every last little thing you can to cut down your A/C bill. They arrived exactly as described and worked exactly as anticipated. Excellent quality in a well-made and carefully packaged product. (The pieces I cut off became some nice refrigerator and toolbox magnets.)

My house is older and the central AC is not very well laid out, it loses too much pressure before the air makes it to the farther rooms. I used these to block two vents in the rooms with the most airflow, and felt a noticeable increase in airflow in my other rooms. Was it dramatic? No. But these are not going to solve a poorly laid out AC duct system. The magnets stick well to my vents, and they weren’t too difficult to cut down to size. Measure your vents before you order.
