  • A BIG miss, Diono
Color: Black Storm
As a mom of 5 kids and spending 10 years doing the car seat "dance" as we've grown in size, we've had our share of car seats including a few Dionos which we have come to love for the quality and slim footprint. I was so hopeful we found the unicorn for our van's 3rd row for my now 40 pounder to move to a high back booster that doesn't have arm rests or the added bulk...but this is DEFINITELY not it. Lightweight, yes, that's true, but this thing feels just cheap, flimsy and wayyyy lower quality than I would expect from Diono. The side head supports just flop around at the lightest of touch or movement and the back length is not adjustable so a smaller height kid sits awkwardly lower than the floppy head supports. There is no cushion - just the plastic frame and the outer material. I am not one that normally leaves a review.... life of a busy mom...but I felt the need to warn other's of this sub-par product. I will be returning it back tomorrow. Rethink this Diono - good idea in theory but it felt like all the corners were cut on this thing and it needs some definitive improvements. ... show more

  • Five stars as a travel seat
Color: Blue Surge
If this was compared to other travel seats, like bubble bum, mifold or a backless booster, all of which I have tried and/or brought on vacation with me already - I'd pick this seat - if my child was of the right height (ages 4-9). It hits the most import parts of a booster - aligning the seatbelt to the user, something backless boosters will struggle to do no matter what the seat. And you get the added bonus of a bit of foam near the head for side impact protection. Five stars for this case use. I included a picture of this seat compared to two of Diono's other seats - an older Monterey XT and Cambria XL. There is no fit to child adjustment, but you cans see the height compared to the highest and lowest settings. When it comes to saftey, I'm not sure how well this would actually compare to other seats in a crash test. The pictures and video show there are huge differences between the three seats, but rigidity is not a marker of a good crash test. I've watched test crash videos of other seats where they are fully padded, but so rigid they do not move with the child, and the child takes the full impact in a side crash simulation. Some seats have built in impact cells (Britax, Graco) specifically designed to crumple so your seat goes with your child. Some seats have staged teathers so they have give to them under extreme forces. I can't judge this seat as poor, simply because of the lack of structure, as many seats structures are more for show than protection. Note, the Airi actually has more EPS padding than the Cambria, given that the latter has none. Both come down to just thin plastic in the shoulder area. As you can see, the Monterey is the antithesis of the Airi. It's got EPS everywhere. It has fit adjustments in both width and height. It is rigid, and even has steel bars at the shoulders. And there's the question - do I trust a seat that moves with my child as it has more of a shell, vs. than one that is very rigid but a lot of padding? Only crash test videos could help sort that out, but I would opt for more padding and trust that the seat is designed so that the padding is in the right place at the right time. However there are functional issue to using this seat full time. There are no cupholders and the lack of rigidity means the headrest is unlikely to support a sleeping child. There are no adjustments. The best booster is the booster that fits your child, your child will like and use properly every time. I say if compared to other highback boosters for full time use, 2 stars. ... show more

  • Very flimsy
Color: Pink Cotton Candy
This booster is very flimsy. There’s headrest flops around. There’s no locking mechanism to prevent folding. Theres no latch so the booster slides around in the seat. I don’t have confidence that this booster would do much of anything to protect a child in an accident. It is very light weight though. My daughter fit well in it for a small 6yr old. There’s not much required for installation besides routing the seatbelt through the positioned. There’s good space for buckling but my daughter still found it challenging. I returned it. ... show more

  • Pros and cons, best suited for older, slender kids.
Color: Blue Surge
I am ordinarily a huge Diono fan. I love my RXTs. I have a small Home Day Care and I only use their brand of car seats and have for years. This summer I have some school-aged kids and we like to do field trips, so I was happy to find a simple high back booster with a narrow footprint from a loved & trusted brand. Pros: Lightweight Easily folds No assembly required Narrow footprint-fits 3 across! Uncomplicated installation - just put it in your car and position the belt through the red positioner loop Cons: -They are very tall and block my view if I use them in the back row of my van -They tip over easily if the kids lean too far (this is helped by having 3 high back seats together), especially if they fall asleep and put all their weight on the side of the seat. -The height of the belt positioner is not adjustable (but you can easily switch if it is on the left or right.) -The arm rests (which should hold the lap belt off of the soft bargains of the abdomen in an accident) are merely little nubs. On a thicker child with a belly, I don't think that the armrests would keep the lap belt from sliding up onto the belly in an unsafe way. I would say that the seat is not great for long trips, chubbier kids (especially in the belly), kids who fall asleep in the car, or shorter kids. It would be a great backup seat for an older, slender child possibly for travel/ride sharing like cabs/ubers or short trips where the kids will stay awake for the duration of the trip. I got the navy blue and I think the color is very nice and I do trust the durability of Diono seats. ... show more

  • Disappointed
Color: Blue Surge
It was lightweight. That’s the only positive. They went on sale and I bought mine before they sold on Amazon. $40 is STILL too high for this. When I got it I noticed you can’t adjust it, it bent very easily and it didn’t lock in place. I was extremely disappointed it was returned asap.

  • 3 across machine
Color: Pink Cotton Candy
Perfect seat for 3 across scenarios that otherwise wouldn’t be able to use a high back booster. It’s very lightweight and flimsy however the entire point of a booster seat is to position the seatbelt correctly for a crash and this does exactly that. My child is able to sleep in the upright position and not slouch over like a backless booster would do. Very easy to buckle next to other seats as well. Would have had to go right to a backless booster seat in my forester but this allowed me to do 2 HBB and a FF/RF seat no problem. Love it! ... show more

  • So flimsy it’s dangerous!!
Color: Black Storm
So flimsy it’s dangerous for kids with difficulty walking, my son’s other seat was getting too small so I ordered this one and to save my back, we typically help him walk to his seat in the van from his wheelchair— he fell leaning on it since it just gave out and then there are times he isn’t quite squared up with the seat when he goes to sit down and falls over too. Very dangerous seat, wish I had kept the box to return. Huge miss on design, not enough height to give options to older kids who still need support sitting past what his Radian seat offered, and yes it’s light but if using for travel, it’s still not ideal, especially on the highway ... show more

  • A booster that just happens to have a back
Color: Black Storm
Narrow, fit three wide no issues. Just what we needed. Yes, the top is of thinner plastic. This is a booster seat that just so happens to have a back. The headrests do better with being side by side. And I'm sure will perform just fine for a lateral impact.
