The back panel is whatever thinks you need it for but just line up the panel and drive the screws in with some more force than normal. These are perfect. Yes they aren't meant to stand on but my cat took an immediate liking to em. I bought two, one for each kitty. They look great, hold in the litter when kitty decides to get crazy inside the plastic box inside. Plenty of space for a larger litter box. They look like furniture.

I had my doubts about these things because I've got a bigger kitty--12 lbs and very floofy. He has a full-size pan litter box and a small litter mat, and all of it fit in. My only worry was if he'd go in and use it. I set it all up and opened the cuppboard-style doors (have a magnet so they stay closed until you want to clean it) and he went right in. Then I closed them and he used it before exiting the side. I honestly think he likes the privacy and I haven't had a single cat complaint. It's not the easiest thing to put together, but you don't need a pro. And once it's together, it's actually quite beautiful and sturdy! I use it as an end-table, and it keeps both the odor and the litter tracking down. Pro tip: Make sure you follow the directions, as they will be different depending on which side you want the hole on. Installation was easy, book was also easy to read and follow. Only issue was at the very end we realized that the screw and knob don't properly thread when attaching to the door and of course we don't have an extra screw for it. Can't contact seller to get a replacement either.

Its easy to use and easy to access for scooping duty. The cats love it but it doesn’t keep the dogs from sticking their noses in the litter box when they can.
