  • Definitely Dewalt
Style: New 12" Miter Saw Pattern Name: Miter Saw
This saw is heavy duty, made of good quality materials, and is easy to use. The dust collection feature and the blade light or two nice features add additional value to an already great product. This saw cuts through two by fours like butter and with very accurate precision are used to angle cuts to make a picture frame with a perfect fit. DeWalt power and quality is hard to beat! ... show more

  • I am very pleased with this saw
First off, this review is for the DW716XPS and not the DW716. Amazon has mixed the reviews for both saws. I wanted the DW716 and I wanted to be able to put an LED or laser on it, but for that, you must get a type 1, 2, 3 or 4; the type 20 will not accept a light and it is the type 20 that you will get if you order the DW716 here on Amazon. I don't think that you can get anything other than a type 20 even at the home improvement store tool departments. I was going to order the DW716 anyway when I saw the DW716XPS with the built in LED. I am very pleased with this saw. I checked all of the adjustments and they were dead on right out of the box. I had also read reviews about the miter table being .016 to .025 low which could throw off a cut. I put a square across the fence and couldn't push a piece of paper under it, and it appeared to be dead on as well. So far, no problems. I turned on the switch for the LED and I could see the shadow of the teeth. It was a simple task to line up my oak board and cut the line. The cut was smooth and splinter free. Yes, it could benefit from an 80 tooth blade but the 60T Fine Finish blade it came with made excellent cuts in the oak I was working with. The 80T blade is probably more of a requirement for cutting softer woods like pine, but the 60T does a good job with oak. I'm very pleased with the accuracy of the LED system that requires no adjustment unlike a laser would. Having used it, I wouldn't want a laser now. The only thing I don't like about the saw is that the table extensions that I bought will not slide in and store under the saw like my old DW705, It's a pain in the butt to have to remove them every time I want to move from one jobsite to another. I also didn't want a slide and this saw seemed like the best in a non slider. If you have decided on a DW716, then spend a few more bucks and get the DW716XPS. You'll be happy you did. ... show more

  • Great for baseboards, window trim, door trim, and anything with a miter
Style: New 12" Miter Saw Pattern Name: Miter Saw
This is a high quality tool and replaced a 20 year old miter saw. The laser is great to see where you are cutting. The blade is sharp and does not blow out the backside of the wood. Perfect for remodeling a house (baseboards, window trim, door trim, etc).

  • Easy to use, love the cut line.
Style: New 12" Miter Saw Pattern Name: Miter Saw
I snagged this on a great Black Friday deal to replace a hand-me-down that may have been older than I. I love the shadow cut line. It's such a brilliant, but simple idea and it works. No calibration required. The various controls to change angles are fairly standard. They're not any harder than any other saw but for infrequent users you may still have to dig the manual out as they're not, at first glance, intuitive. The lock hole for the trigger is great, I can ensure no accidental issues with kids. It's nothing fancy, but so far I'm very happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • A SOLID 5 star saw. Another deWALT home run!
I’m replacing a Hitachi 12” saw with laser that’s served me well for a decade? (Close to it if not) because it no longer holds true. Apparently mistakenly sawing in half a metal square does something to a saw. It would hold at 90, but if you went to 45 and back? It would be off again even after replacing the out of square blade. About THIS saw. I’m very impressed with the quality/build of this saw. The saw was square right out of the box and the XPS light is far better than a laser which I never even used on my old saw because it was pretty useless for precision work. This saw is even quieter and the included blade cuts like butter. Packaging was more than adequate. Everything was surrounded by styrofoam. The box didn’t even have a dent in it! I’ve seen boxes in the big box stores that looked more beat up than this one. If I had to complain? 1. The manual. DeWALT manuals are the worse. They need to stop making them long and then rolling them up when they package it! Every deWALT manual is like this, but you page through it once and hopefully never have to look at it again. 2. Would be the XPS light activation. I’d like it to come on when I lower the blade rather than having to turn it on and off. Or integrate it into the trigger somehow. Like split the trigger. Squeeze all of it to get the light, only half to just cut. I’m sure some people would complain about that. My old saw’s laser was the same way and was one reason why I never used it. Overall this is a really nice saw and I chose this over the very nice Harbor Freight sliding Hercules saw which is very competively priced mainly because deWALT has the better warranty (only 90 days on the HF), parts availability and reputation. For the price I paid you can’t beat this saw. If you can’t decide between the non-XPS light model and this saw GET THIS ONE! The light is really nice. ... show more

  • Good choice -- XPS is worth the extra cost.
Does a nice job cutting with a good blade (upgraded to a higher tooth count than what came with the saw). XPS system works well on 2D lumber. Would prefer a laser beam for 3D cutting, like crown molding. The XPS beam diffuses (is less sharp) when the work-piece is not close to the blade edge. When a piece of crown molding is set at an angle to cut, and your pencil mark is at the bottom of the molding, it is hard to see where the XPS cut lines up with the pencil mark because of the LED light diffusing. Dust collection with the provided bag is rather marginal -- misses quite a bit of the cuttings. Haven't tried using a vacuum to see if that would do better. Electric brake is a nice feature and works fast, such that you can leave the blade in the down position, after making a cut, until the blade comes to a full stop (as recommended in the instructions) without wasting your time. Overall, a good machine, and sure makes cutting angles easy. ... show more
