This large cross needle meter has a pale blue meter lamps, making it stand out in any ham shack. It has a large metal case and is ruggedly built. Removable rubber side bumpers are useful to prevent damage in the field. It's frequency range of 1.8 to 200 MHz is the widest in this group, with forward power scales of 30, 300 and 3000 watts, selected by the front panel range switch. This active watt meter must be connected to a DC supply for PEP measurements but will read average power and SWR with the power disconnected. It does not measure reflected power or display SWR in the PEP mode. The large 3.75 × 3.25 inch meter face is easy to read and provides good resolution with scale divisions between 0.5 watt up to 20 watts (multiply by 10 or 100 for higher power ranges). A rear panel receptacle accepts 13.8 VDC (power cord is included), and a meter lamp switch is located on the rear panel. • Must have for the new rules and record keeping.
Purchase this to make sure that my radio station had an accurate measurement for the transmission power. Radios and applications have watt/SWR meters but I could never get matching readings. This meter does a great job accurately measuring the power out. Now I am confident that my records have accurate readings. It has very bright LEDs to illuminate the screen. You can turn them off and on but unable to dim them. They may be too bright for some situations. Reading display by mechanical means (no digital display). The PEP Peak hold is a great feature for needs. If ever need another one, I would buy this one again. ... show more

  • Not very accurate
Really wanted to like this unit, but it's just not accurate. Tested against 2 other meters and all read the same except for those ibit which reads high. At 300 watts output from an Ameritron AL600S, amp reads 300, mfj tuner reads 300, this reads 340. At 500 watts, this unit is almost 100 watts higher! Also, lots of plastic and not very heavy at all, so running LMR400 coax makes it not want to sit flat on any surface. The meter does look good and it would have been perfect for my aging eyesight, but what good is a meter if it doesn't read accurately? Too late to return for me, so I'll use it for a light in the radio room, that is one feature that does work well! ... show more

  • The HDTV Meter
As an Extra Class Ham, I have an older Daiwa SWR meter. However the Symmetric Pi tuner I'm shifting to doesn't have a built in SWR meter (for good reason). The features work as advertised, and the meter itself is huge. The backlight is an LED which should live longer than me. Accuracy is spot on. The only nitpick is the LED is too bright. A trim pot would be nice there. All in all, when it's time to step up, this one will not disappoint. ... show more
