  • Saw Rips-
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
I got it out of the box, installed a high end chain, set it up and I used a 6AH battery. I was playing around with 2 large 31 in diameter pine tree stumps. The saw just ripped right into them. I made 24 cuts into them that were as deep as the blade would go so that I could burn them out at a later date. The 6AM battery had enough power and the motor enough torque that the saw never even bogged down. After 10-15 minutes of cutting, I took the battery off. Still had 3 bars. The oiler system fully functions. I only have one negative and that has to do with the brake. You have to pull it back as you hold down the unlock for the hand trigger. Fully 2 hand operation. The hand brake felt hard to pull back. Other than that, this saw totally rips. For what I need it for, it fully exceeded my expectations. ... show more

  • This thing is a lot of fun (and more powerful than you'd think)
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
I specifically wanted a battery powered chain saw and when I found this one by DeWalt, I couldn't have been happier. First of all, it is so much quieter than gas powered saws. This has a short blade, but can saw through a six inch trunk with no trouble. It has made clearing vines and small trees easy and fun. I still treat it with respect (gloves, safety goggles), but it has a three step safety system to turn it on. The only maintenance is checking the oil now and then. I also keep the battery in the house where it doesn't freeze. And I can use the same battery with my hedge trimmer, so very convenient. It's possible to do most anything a homeowner would want to do with this chainsaw, IMO, and anyone can handle it with relative ease. ... show more

  • Handy little saw
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
I wanted something small and easy too handle while climbing a tree. This easily cut a couple 6 to 8 inch branches out of a willow all while in a position which would have been very awkward with my heavy gas saw. Will it replace my gas saw? No. Does it cut as fast? No. But it does very well for the purpose I bought it. All with no gas and exhaust stink and no pulling my shoulder out of joint to start it. As to battery life: I started with 3/4 charge, cut, limbed, and cut to firewood size 2 large limbs without running out of power. As to the oil leek everyone complains about: It does not leak any more than any gas saw I have used. When laid on its side it does not seem to leak at all over night on my workbench. The oil fill cap does not have a seal, as reported but my wife suggested I wrap the cap with Teflon tape. Genius! The cap never leaked a drop. If you need a small light handy saw, buy it. If you need a heavy duty gas saw buy both. ... show more

  • This thing is a little workhorse, but it leaks like a sieve.
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
I took the advice of several other reviewers and ordered a 14" Oregon bar and chain for this. It does really well with the included Dewalt 12" bar and chain, but the 14" Oregon setup really steps this chainsaw's game up. It will cut for hours on one 5ah battery. I've been super impressed with the battery life and overall capabilities of this thing. My only complaint is that it leaks like a sieve. I filled the oil reservoir up to the brim, and it was completely empty after a few hours of use. My backyard is mostly flagstone pavers and pea gravel, which means all of the oil dripping is easily visible. I almost stopped working, because it had leaked so much that it looked like it was beginning to rain due to all of the oil drops all over the flagstone. Between it naturally dripping out the bottom, and possibly from being slung by the chain, most of the flagstone in my backyard has oil stains that will require me to wash with dish soap and a power washer, and maybe some old fashioned elbow grease. Word to the wise, don't use this near concrete or stone. Stick to grassy or bare dirt areas, where the oil can be absorbed without leaving a lasting trail/evidence. Also, be VERY mindful where you set it down, as it will leave a half dollar sized oil puddle wherever it's allowed to sit for more than a few seconds. Bottom line: despite leaking an onerous amount of oil over a short period of time, I would buy this again in a heartbeat and continue to recommend others do so, as well. For it's size, it's a mighty little beast. ... show more

  • Perfect for all but big branches
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
I am so pleased with this saw. I have a medium size gas chainsaw with a 16” bar that I use to cut up big branches and trees that fall in my woods. This will not be replaced by the Dewalt saw. What it will replace will be the hand saw I used to cut branches that continually fall. This electric saw won’t cut a three inch oak branch in 4 seconds like my gas saw but it will in about 10. As I mentioned, I am replacing my hand saw and at 74 years old, I couldn’t cut many large branches with the hand saw before I was wore out. I also want to add that I cut and lopped branches for a well over an hour. I had more than half a charge on the battery yet and over 1/4 tank of chain oil. I was skeptical about battery usage but it was surprisingly abundant . I bought this size, 20v because I have other tools this size. The weight of the tool and battery are perfect. Any lighter and I would have to continually force the teeth into the wood. The last thing I want to mention is oil leakage while saw is idle. I wish my gas saw held oil like this one! I’ve had it laying with the blade down for weeks and I don’t see any oil dripping. Chainsaws have residual oil after stopping. ... show more

  • Definitely a mighty little saw
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
While it wind keep up with a nice stihl saw it will definitely do its job. You will be cutting a bit slower than you would but if you are tackling smaller jobs or doing something remote it’s the saw of choice. I’ve cut down 30+ dead spruce trees back in the woods and it’s so nice to be able to carry a light weight saw and not have to worry about gas and whether it will start or not. ... show more

  • Excellent Product
Style: Chainsaw Bare Tool Only
The saw performs very well and is capable of cutting one foot tree trunks. It is light enough to hold with one hand and great for trimming trees. Mine lasted 3 years with many dozens of trees cut down or trimmed. If one is going to cut thick wood, I would suggest purchasing an extended warranty, as the saw has complicated multiple failure points circuitry as well as the motor. So, when it suddenly no longer responds, it is not easy to service. The 60 volt is even more capable, but weighs enough more to make it difficult to trim one handed. Great value. ... show more
