This saw is exactly what I expected. Once I got good 20v 4amp batteries, I cut up logs on and off for an hour and still had power to spare. Good power for a little battery operated saw.

    • Strong tool
This tool surprised me. Much more capable than I thought it would be. I bought it for trimming thicker branches, but decided to attempt cutting down a couple palm trees about 12-16 in diameter. It performed much better than expected and cut through them without much difficulty. Impressed.

    • Excellent well made saw and lasts a long time on a battery charge.
I was very happy with the first De Walt 12” chain saw I had for several years. I cut a lot of wood of all sizes with it and worked great until it quit. Think it was the safety switch and looked on U-Tube to see what was involved to get to the switch. It looked extremely complicated and figured I could take it apart but getting it back together would be another story. I needed another battery operated saw soon so bought another De Walt 12” and hope it lasts as long as the first one. ... show more

No oil leaks, sharp chain! Find the balance very good so handling is not an issue. Cuts right through oak and maple. Battery life excellent.

    • Performance not comparable to a gas unit.
I have now used the unit extensively. It throws off the chain frequently. Does not accelerate very quickly, i.e. when you pull the trigger, it ramps up to speed slower than a gas-powered unit. Seems to top out at a slower speed as well. I was looking for a unit to replace my small Echo. This is not it. ... show more

This chainsaw is a little beast and I like it, but I'm leaving a one-star review anyway because I have never, ever seen something that leaks so much oil in such a short time (and I'm a life-long Jeep guy). And DeWalt's complete lack of interest in fixing the problem is unacceptable. So, if you need a small battery powered chainsaw but after spending $300, you wanna completely disassemble it at your kitchen table to fix the multiple leak points, then this is the saw for you. Or, if you wanna ride with it as it comes, and don't mind being completely soaked in bar oil the entire time, that's an option too. Otherwise, I don't know, try a Milwaukee or whatever. I've always bought yellow so I'm not to that point yet. ... show more
