  • Very Nice Turntable, Especially At This Price
Style: Analog Turntable
I've had decent turntables for many years but my old one finally died, and I decided to replace it. I don't use it enough to justify spending a fortune on it, plus I'm not sure my ears would still hear the difference of a more expensive one. I am very happy with my choice of this DP-300F. I wanted a fully automatic, belt-driven turntable for less than $600, so that narrows down the choices. This one offers the features I wanted, plus good specs, from a reputable company, at a great price. It was fairly easy to set up (includes good directions), looks good, is very easy to operate, works well and most importantly, sounds great!! While the included cartridge is probably just fine, I am planning to upgrade it to an Audio Technica AT-VM95EN - orange....it gets good reviews and should be a decent step up if you don't mind spending another $100. This turntable does have some issues I think, but I consider them to be minor: - It is a lot lighter weight (just 12 lbs) than my old one, a bit of a concern on quality and vibration resistance, but we’ll see. (So far I don't detect any vibration issues, and I'd just add a mat under it to help address any if I do at some point.) - It would also be nice if the start/stop buttons on the front were actually on the top where you could see them more easily. - The other “feature” I don’t like is that there is no power on/off button….it is always "on", although the platter is not spinning. A cost savings??? Dumb. I plugged it into a remote on/off switch/cord so I can turn the power off easily. Two other comments. I saw a review here on Amazon that complained about the output being very low and needing to add a pre-amp to the user's system to hear anything much. While the author had very lengthy and supposedly authoritative opinions, he was apparently unaware that this model includes a switchable amp in it....switch it on if your receiver doesn't have a phono input, switch it off if it does. Odd, as it is one of the very first things you see in the manual. That works just fine and is a nice feature. Also, I see some users suggesting stepping up to the newer DP-400. While that model has some modestly better specs and features, it has 2 big drawbacks for me: 1) it is only semi-automatic, not fully automatic, and 2) the cover is not hinged onto the turntable, so you have to lift it on and off, and set it somewhere while playing a record. Denon apparently thinks the hinged cover can add some vibration, but really??? To me, they are trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist. I should mention that one version of the DP-400 includes a USB output, but it only works to a thumb drive, not directly to a computer. Huh. Anyway, I am quite happy with the DP-300F. ... show more

This is a great turntable. Silent, smooth operation. Couples well with my bookshelf speakers and I’m confident it would fit in any pairing. Professional quality and sound.

  • What You Should Know
Style: Analog Turntable
The media could not be loaded. Audio gear is very subjective and many reviewers will evaluate every piece of gear using audiophile standards. This is not an audiophile turntable, but it does sound great. This is essentially the same turntable as the Dual CS 329, Audio Technica LP3, Pioneer PL30 et al. The Audio Technica version has moving coil capability in its onboard preamp, but I would never consider using such a cartridge on a turntable like this. That said, the DP 300 f tonearm supports interchangeable deadshells and is adjustable for tracking force, so you can upgrade your cartridge, if you are so inclined. This is my second DP 300f. They both came with Denon’s DSN 85 cartridge and stylus, however my first unit came with an aluminum cantilevered stylus and second came with what appears to be a carbon graphite version similar to the ATN3600L. In either case , it’s a great setup right out of the box and is more than adequate to provide hundreds of hours of listening. If you’ve never setup an adjustable tonearm then pay careful attention to the instructions. Automatic operation is controversial among audiophiles, but I like it because it means my wife can cue up her records with confidence and I don’t have to go immediately to the turntable and raise the needle when the record is finished. There are some reviews which note this table’s hard-wired power and audio cables as a deficiency, but I’ve never had them impact my use of the device in any way. I run my DP 300f into the phono input of my NAD C328 and through a pair of Q Acoustics 3050 helped out by a Cambridge Audio minx subwoofer and the sound is wonderful. I have owned a number of turntables, direct drive and belt, manual and automatic, etc. The reason I have had two of these is that I passed the first on to my daughter and then, after a disaster with a Project, came back. There is a lot to be said for the simplicity that this table offers. This is a turntable for a person who wants good sound and doesn’t want to break the bank. This is a turntable for house with a variety of vinyl users. This is a turntable for someone perhaps just starting out, but wants the ability grow if the interest develops. ... show more

  • New Player for an old Dude.
Style: Analog Turntable
I just finished setting up a home theatre. 7,2 Klipsch speakers. LOVE IT. Then I remembered I had over 400 LPs in storage, I just need a new player. I always had good luck with Denon. For my price range, the DP-300F was a good fit. Receive it in perfect shape. Hook up was easy. Balancing the arm took several tries. I love the sound. Since I worked and design planes for over 40 years, I can't hear a difference between the digital and analog. I believe the sound is deeper. Have no idea what that means, but I feel the Led Zepplin. Classic Yes was brain altering. And Pink Floyd was want convince me I made the right mode. ... show more
