After hearing much hype about how Denmans destroy type 4 hair and living through the Era when everyone was cutting their denmans up to make them better suited to African descent hair, I was pleasantly surprised at how little tension this brush created in my hair. I wear my hair stretched, a method that relies on tension created by either a roller, twist or braid but prefer to detangle and sleek out each section with a brush, then mold. This brush was fantastic and not the horror so many make it out to be for African hair. In fact, it somehow perfectly detangled my hair (fast) without creating tension despite the 9 rows in the brush! At the end I was left relying more on the technique in my hands than on the drag of the brush to hold the hair straight. I can NOT believe ppl were cutting up these brushes (removing three and four rows) to make them looser and wish I had taken the plunge to purchase one sooner. Not my fave brush, I like to feel like I'm holding a small brick in my hands when I hold a brush (a holdover from when I used to break combs- the weight is more for security than purpose), but it feels like butter going through hair and it is steadily becoming my most used brush if not my fave. And utility is WAY more important than personal preference. The brush detangles beautifully, moves thick, thick hair creams with ease down the hair and really does dry hair faster (I had to redampen some sections as i detangle in wider sections than i twist). Light as a feather brush. Strong teeth. No peeling rubber or loose brush head after a full wash day. No discomfort when in use. Would definitely recommend.

The new brush is almost identical to my old D4. The difference is there is less flexibility in the new brush tines than my old D4. As such, and because I have a lot of fine hair, it is not quite as easy to get the brush to detangle but in fairness to the product, I was not using a detangler in conjunction with the brush. Bottom line: If one is looking for a Quality Brush that is given to longevity, this is your pick. They cost more but, they last for, in my case, 12 years.

I don't know where this has been my whole life. I have 2C / 3A hair that lately has looked more like 2B, but this brush brought it back to life. Other reviews say they received a generic version but mine came as pictured and authentic. LOVE IT and recommend to all my friends.

After losing my last Denman brush on a trip I didn't even hesitate to buy a new one. Don't let the small size and design fool you, this brush is so good at getting rid of the worst knots and detangling hair. It also help me maintain my waves.

My friends go on and on about Denman brushes so I finally got one. It didn't disappoint. Many brushes have soft plastic bristles, which fold and bend in corse hair, making them useless. The Denman has hard bristles which brush and detangle without breaking.
