    • Linux Mint works on it

It works really well with Mint Linux. Basically you need to keep tapping F2 during the boot to get into the BIOS menu. Then you turn off secure boot and change the boot order so that the first place the laptop looks for an operating system is the USB drive, where you should have already inserted a disk with the Linux iso. It can be tricky--on the boot options look for a string with USB--but once you get that sorted out, it loads the Mint live disk. Running it off the USB is pretty slow, but if you go ahead and install and update the packages, it runs fast. Linux Mint--I like the KDE desktop--had no trouble seeing my wifi hardware, the speaker, and simply saw my printer and set that up. With Windows getting steadily worse in terms of being like a really annoying salesperson on the doorstep who will just not go away, this is a way to escape all that. Dell computers tend to like Linux because they often have Intel hardware, which works well with Linux. Doing this is not for the faint hearted, but if you need a computer for the internet and writing and printing documents, this is a good option. ... show more

Update: Unfortunately this computer up and died after a few months of use. One day it simply wouldn't power up and was completely unresponsive. I had a local repair shop look at it, and he was baffled on what the problem was. The power box was fine, but the computer was dead. My money is gone and I would not buy a refurbished computer from Amazon again based on this experience. So I recommend that you look elsewhere. Old Review: I have to admit that I was hesitant about buying a refurbished computer from Amazon, but I am very happy with this purchase. The computer, listed in excellent condition, met my expectations. I couldn't tell any difference between this computer and a brand new one. Battery usage is not as good as the hype says it is. I even followed the battery calibration as the insert stated. Other than that, shipment went well. Everything was included in excellent condition. None of the ports worked on the right hand side so I was unable to easily download and save files to USB 3.1 or USB-C drives. Replacement laptop was sent, but programs were already installed the day it was purchased and now unable to reuse some of the programs purchased as product keys were one time use two specific computer.
