  • This is a very nice computer but there were a few minor discrepancies.
What I liked: I actually got an Optiplex 5000 shipped to me, instead of the 3000 I actually ordered. OK, I can live with that as it still came with 64 GB of RAM and an i9 computer chip. I knew it didn't have a card reader so I ordered an external reader to plug into its USB-C port. What I didn't like: It didn't have an USB-C port, so my reader is useless to me. It also was supposed to support three monitors and have a Display Port, a HDMI port, and a VGA port. I only needed two ports as I use two monitors. Either of them can use either a HDMI or VGA cable. The trouble is, the computer doesn't have any HDMI or VGA ports. It came with two Display Ports and ONE adapter so I could plug a HDMI cable into one of the Display Ports. Needless to say, I'm using a single monitor until another adaptor shows up on Saturday. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. To end on a positive note: the 12-year-old i5 computer with 12 GB of RAM and 2 TB of mechanical hard drive space this is replacing was getting really sluggish. The hard drive light would come on continuously for 15-20 minutes at a time and the computer would freeze until it'd start blinking again. Sometimes my second monitor would just shut down (a Window's issue; not a monitor issue). I could generally get the second monitor back online by rebooting. Only rebooting was a 20 minute exercise, sometimes in futility as the old computer might freeze in the middle of it, so I'd have to reboot it in the middle of a reboot. But that was then and this is now. This new desktop reboots (after I installed all of my apps manually) in a little less than 30 seconds. Waiting is no longer required and for that reason alone I will overlook the minor complaints I have and recommend this one to others. I don't regret buying it at all. This thing flies! I just wish they'd been more accurate in its description. Or had included a second HDMI adapter. If I don't come back to update this, you can assume it's running well. If it tanks, I'll be back to write about it. UPDATE: I know I said I'd update this if there's something that went wrong. I'm now using it with the original two HDMI monitors via the Display Ports with the assistance of an adapter on each. I initially had trouble getting the monitors to recognize there was a HDMI signal coming to it. I did a little research online and was able to get them both operational. You should be aware that these take the unidirectional HDMI cables. Bi-directional cables won't work. I've had some fun getting my old computer's programs and data selectively migrated as I declined to use a migration utility but did it the old-fashioned way. Here we are, about 9 days since receiving this new computer and I am a very happy camper. I won't say it couldn't have been easier but I did eventually get there. Nice machine. ... show more

  • Great price, huge computing power
We're happy with our new 3000 Optiplex Tower Computer, Intel i9-12900K. It was delivered in new Dell packaging, but from a company with a different name. Very well packed, and fast shipping. It came with Windows 11 Pro, and very little unwanted Bloatware. This seems like a very good value. Have only had it a week. The newer models of Dell desktops involve less hand assembly and more complex Motherboards. Even the power supplies are lighter today. This model includes a staggering 64 Gig of RAM, and a 2 Terabyte SSD. That SSD is built directly onto the Motherboard, so I don't know if it's replaceable. It does have an expandable bus cable, because we had to have a DVD drive, not part of all desktops today. Both RAM slots are filled, and there are three unused expansion card slots. Fan noise is quite low, although the exiting air is quite warm. Came with a perfectly good USB keyboard and a USB mouse. When buying, check the photos and feature lists carefully. There were minor errors in those for our Amazon purchase: There is no USB-C plug on the rear of the case (which there is in the photo), and there is no rear audio plug, only one on the front (text Feature list). If it's important to you, look up the on-board video support. We wanted the relatively high end Intel 770, which can support multiple monitors easily. We didn't need the WiFi at all, but it was a surprise to get a loose WiFi USB-dongle in the Dell package, not WiFi built into the unit itself. I'm not 100% certain, but it appears that Dell is denigrating the idea of Serial Numbers. I can't find one on the machine, or on the many cardboard boxes. Of course there are the usual two Dell service numbers, clearly marked on the exterior. ... show more

  • What an Imiprovement!
My old Dell PC was 14 years old so I needed a computer which could handle composing music. The new Dell handles all of functions of my Digital Audio workstation while using only a small fraction of the Intel I9 chip's capacity. It boots up in 13 seconds. I'm totally satisfied. : )
