I've had two pair of merrell hiking shoes before buying these and as far as comfort goes, I must admit the merrell's are a little more comfortable but that would be expected at the cost difference. These are pretty close in comfort and would buy these again before buying something much more expensive. The other issue I had with my Merrell's is neither pair was waterproof even though they were supposed to be. I think both pairs had a defect in one of the shoes as only one of my feet would get wet in one section of the shoe. These NORTIV shoes have been completely waterproof and I always have dry feet.
