The ability to use whole beans or ground is terrific! I can keep my decaf beans in the machine and use ground coffee to make a cup for guests. The ability to make a double cup is a game changer. I used this at a friend's home in Germany and fell in love, bought the refurbished unit for my own home and it came looking like it was untouched in its original packaging. I have three different similar machines. I have a Saeco nearly 18 years. A Jura about 7 years and this one. This machine is quieter than either one of the others. Which is probably the only pro to it. I’ve spent months fiddling with the amount of water and grind and brew strength attempting to get the perfect cup to no avail. It makes an ok cup and a fairly good espresso however once the water goes over 4 ounces it ends up being watery. Additionally the 2 cup option seems to only add more water and not more beans to the grind so in order to get a real cup in the morning I have to brew twice for each cup. This might not be a huge deal if the water container was larger but I have to refill it every day and sometimes more often than that. I also have to refill the beans every couple of days and it seems like nearly every day at least one out two of the maintenance lights comes on. It’s similar to the difference between a Mac and a PC. If you want it to just work and work well all the time avoid this machine. If you don’t mind spending part of your day doing maintenance just to save a few dollars then go for it. This machine is going to be put in the mountain cabin and the 18 year old Saeco is going back in its spot. I wanted to love it but no. ... show more

    • I went through 3 machines in two year period - failed water pumps

This machine makes incredible espresso, but I went through three machines in two years due to the same problem, failed water pumps. Clearly a design error, so unless you want to replace them every 6-12 months I would stay away from this espresso maker.
