    • Pretty basic scanner gets the job done
This is a pretty basic scanner, but I got it because I needed to clear some codes out of my car and I did that without any issues. It comes on as soon as you plug it into the OBD port and the cable is plenty long. The only other thing I’ve used this for is checking battery voltage. There are a lot of other tests and scans listed in the menus but I could never get them to do anything on my vehicle Which is a 2019. ... show more

I'm an older seasoned automotive technician, I'm reviewing this product based on my many years of experience in the field using high quality tools. This small hand held scanner is basically a code reader, it will clear trouble codes, and does give a simple information data stream. Can be used on any OBD 2 protocol based vehicle. Scanner is physically small in size, but does use simple prompts to direct user in the operation of the scanner. Diagnostic cord is much to short to be considered user friendly. Unit is lightweight and the quality is somewhat questionable. The digital screen is relatively small and needs to be larger, screen is barely readable, instruction manual is included, unfortunately the print is small and somewhat hard to read. Scanner does not come with a any kind of case to protect the scanner while being stored. Price point is considered somewhat high for this item. ... show more

I got this several months ago and being the owner of 3 older vehicles and 1 new vehicle, I thought I would need this sooner than I did. With no problems to check, what would I be checking...to see that all was good? Finally, the van started running a little rough and the check engine light came on so I hooked up the Da Tang Pet DATANG OBD2 Scanner Diagnostic Tool. You don't need to be a technician to operate or read it. In no time flat, it identified the 3rd cylinder as having a problem. I scanned through everything and found no other issues. Seems very solid and gives you a feeling of substantial information in your hands. Neither of my cars showed any issues. But, after I got done I read the caution on the last page of the manual that warned not to trust it on hybrid or electric vehicles. One of my cars is a hybrid and the other is a plug in hybrid. You can read and clear the codes, then turn off the lights that pop up warning you that something is wrong. There is actually a litany of things you can do with this device: “read I/M readiness, retrieve your VIN number, test EVAP systems, conduct battery voltage tests, view freeze frame data, access live data streams, and built-in 35, 901 DTCs.” I love this device because it can help you stop random charges from seedy car repair shops. Pop this into your OBD2 port, find out what is wrong with your car beforehand, then when they try to inflate the charges with some bogus repairs, you will already know they are false claims because of the scan you ran previously. You also get free upgrades for this device, thus ensuring that you have all of the latest features and improvements on your OBD2 scanner. You can choose between light or dark screen modes and also adjust the screen brightness according to your preference. To me, this reader was super user-friendly. I’m not the biggest car geek but even I figured out how to use this device. The user interface will absolutely guide you through the process. Even newbies will have a super easy experience with this device. Even better, with the “Hot-Keys”, the F1 key will quickly tell you what the fault code is and it will help you find out what is wrong with your vehicle. Gotta love that!
