Let’s not talk about this reel being good “for the money.” That makes it sound like you’re settling for an inferior product because you’re limited by your budget. Instead, just know that this is an excellent baitcaster! I recently decided to upgrade after fishing for a while with several Abu Garcia Black Max reels. The Black Max is a good reel (possibly the best beginner reel ever), but I wanted a metal frame and a little bit better quality. After my research, it seemed like there were several good choices in the $99 range, and the Fuego CT was one of those. But then I saw it on Amazon for $70, and I just couldn’t pass it up! So what does the Fuego CT have to offer? Well, this reel is basically a Tatula CT, minus one bearing and the T-Wing system. So you’re getting all the other goodies that come with the Tatula CT: an aluminum frame, the carbon drag, and Daiwa’s amazing Magforce Z breaking system! Throw in your choice of three gear ratios, and the Fuego CT is one of the best upgrades on the market for the weekend angler! Sounds good on paper, but what about the actual experience? Believe me, it’s good. The drag is plenty powerful for any bass you’ll catch. And it casts amazingly well. It’s super smooth, and backlashes are rare. In fact, if I backlash now, I know it’s because of some mistake I made, not the reel. Overall, it’s an impressive reel. Very palmable, light, strong, and easy to operate. And Amazon’s price makes it irresistible! So, now I have 2 of them! I bought the 6.3:1 gear ratio for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. I loved it so much, I bought the 8.1:1 gear ratio for worms, jigs, and frogging. They are both fantastic! Buy one, and you will not be disappointed! Edit: I’ve used my Fuegos consistently for a few months now. They are still amazing! I keep moving them to different rods for different applications, which means of course, that I need to buy more of them! Love these reels! This is the most expensive baitcaster I have purchased but I have to say it feels like it should be priced way higher, like $50-$100 higher. Well worth your money. Other retailers sell this for $99.99 so on Amazon, this is a great deal. I bought it mainly to replace a junk KastKing baitcaster I had purchased a while back that I was testing out and just couldnt get dialed in. The other casting reels I use are in the $80 price point range, the Lews MG Speed Spool and the Abu Garcia ProMax. both are great reels with their own merits and faults. For the extra $20, the Fuego CT is an incredible reel that really beats the competition. You really do get what you pay for and specifically with this reel, you get so much more than that. Super smooth casting, great control, fits in the hand really nicely, smooth and buttery. Everything you want in a baitcasting reel. I was using 12lb fluorocoated P-Line for the inaugural cast and it was a dream. Zero backlashes during the day and landed two 2-2.5lb fish at the lake and it was magical. Plus at this price point, no other company is making an aluminum framed reel - most are composites so you know this will be able to take a beating. It is a no-nonsense, well constructed reel that works better than any others that I own. You are doing yourself a disservice if you dont at a minimum consider adding one of these to your arsenal if you are an avid, serious angler. ... show more

This baitcaster is probably one of the best in terms of casting long distance. Fits my hand, not too big not too small. The drag is decent and i was able to fit more line in this reel. This is the best under $100 baitcaster out there. I love how solid the construction is and the retrieve and drag is smooth. One of the problem I had with previous baitcaster is it's hard to fine tune heavier weights. But tuning the Fuego is easy. I can cast further than my spinning tackle which surprised me. So far I have yet to get a bird nest. I never imagine I would prefer baitcasting over spinny but now I do. I think it's important to get a quality reel. I highly recommend Daiwa Fuego CT. Get the left handed version if u are used to spinning tackle and retrieving with left hand. The transition feels very natural. Update: After two years of use, what I learn is the fuego bearings are not meant for saltwater usage. But you can still use it for saltwater if you clean and oil the bearings after use. Make sure to rince the reel with freshwater and then take the reel apart to dry the internal gears to prevent corrision. Make sure to grease the gears and drag symtem lightly to prevent before reassembling. If you don't like to do maintenance often I recommend replacing the stock bearings with either hybrid ceramic bearings or full ceramic bearings. That will essentially make the fuego saltwater reel. Anyways I still use the fuego and it's as smooth as the first time I use it. If you know how to care for it it will last many years. I recently upgraded to Daiwa Tatula 100 and 200.
