  • ECB81M - awesome replacement strings for my Ibanez AEB10E
Size: Medium Scale Style: Light, 45-100
This is my first foray into flat wound strings. I'd read lots of recommendations on different forums about what strings to put on my acoustic/electric bass, an Ibanez AEB10e (medium (32") scale). A number of folks had these specific strings on this exact model bass, so I decided to give it a try. I'm a relatively new bass player I've been playing extensively for about 7 months, but have played electric guitar, keyboard and many woodwinds over the course of my life. I picked up my AEB10e from a friend who had not been maintaining it. I brought the strings over to a luthier to install and also assess whether other things needed to be adjusted. He popped the strings on and also addressed some bowing/action. While the bass overall plays better, I'm very delighted by the feel of flat wounds vs the much more abrasive "standard" round wounds that come on most basses. Very smooth. While I liked the sound of the old "dull" sound of the ancient strings (reminiscent of an upright!), I've quickly become accustomed to the response and pop to the sound. Next time I need to replace strings on my other basses, I'd definitely look to get an equivalent of the ECB81's in my scale. ... show more

  • Great deal on wrong strings!
Size: Medium Scale Style: Light, 45-100
Bought Medium Scale Chromes from D'Addario Store, used! Didn't know they sold used strings, $10 cheaper than new. Box was open, but strings were sealed in the factory plastic bag inside. I could swear these are new. No bends, corrosion, dust, etc. Silks look new. Great! Go to put them on my bass... these are short scale strings, silks run to the 2nd fret! Sent me 30" strings in a 32" package. The product itself deserves 5 stars, have zero complaints with the strings, just the wrong size. I'm going to keep them and put them on a Gretsch bass I have, but I still need some medium scale flats! Minus one star for what I believe was an honest mistake, but plus one for selling used flats from the factory! Everyone should do that! Good job D'Addario! ... show more

  • Perfect hybrid string
Size: Long Scale Style: Medium, 50-105
Bright enough to slap, fat enough for even sound across the neck. Long lasting too. My new go-to for every day gigging

  • Excellent strings!
Size: Long Scale Style: Light, 45-132 (5-String)
Flat wounds are the only type that I use for bass. Can’t stand standard strings. Period.

  • Bright and smooth flatwounds
Size: Long Scale Style: Light, 45-132 (5-String)
These were stock on two upper end Ibanez fretless basses. After switching to expensive Thomastik-Infeld strings for a year to get a more woody sound - and they did sound great, they also started sounding dead after that time (said to last much longer!). I just switched back to these on my main fretless, the five string SRF705. Very smooth feel and unusually bright sound for a flatwound. When new/during break-in the growl/mwah even when set higher is almost over the top. I'm hoping for humid outdoor gigs they don't get sticky like the T-Is did. They have relatively high tension. I like this to be able to set the action low as possible and more easily play the quick licks. Durability is so so. In regular use if they stayed lively-sounding for longer they'd be almost perfect. ... show more

  • Great bass strings

These are the only strings I use. Great tone!

  • Great strings
Size: Long Scale Style: Light, 40-100
I love these strings. Very smooth feel. Being stainless steel wrapped, they help give your bass guitar lots of output. If you play in an R&B, blues, or older classic rock group, there with be a break-in period to get rid of the almost round wound string brightness. Play them enough and that brightness mellows out to nice old-school, buttery bass tones. If you like round wound string brightness but hate the string noise, just keep them very clean and the brightness will last. ... show more
