  • Be Sure to Check Your Neck Relief
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
I love these strings. I think "tapewound" is an outdated word. These strings are simply plastic coated, with no seams where tape windings appear on other tapewounds. I installed them on a Squire Fretless Jazz Bass and the Long Scale length installed perfectly. They fell like butter in my hands and provide a sound much closer to a standup bass than the stock round-wound strings. They are very easy on the fingers and also don't scratch the fingerboard (yes, the round-wounds did leave marks). Even though the string diameters are about the same as the stock strings, they they are lighter tension and therefore I needed to adjust my truss rod to put the neck relief back where I like it. I would highly recommend these strings. ... show more

  • First Try with Tapewounds - I'm a Fan!
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
I mostly buy Ernie Ball Super Slinky's but decided to try some black strings on my MusicMan Stingray. I bought some DR Black Beauties and they were fine but about a month ago I decided to try these D'Addario Tapewounds and I'm glad I did. These things are buttery smooth. Transitioning on a long bass fretboard has always been a bit of a challenge for me and these strings help with that. They are about double the cost of a regular set of strings so I'm not 100% sold yet but so far so good. I practice a good bit and so far the strings show no signs of wear at all. I like the sound they make too - not extremely different from other strings but they definitely don't have a metallic sound that some other strings I've tried have. So, I'd recommend these and I plan to buy more sets. ... show more

  • Good string for fretless, low tension required, holds tune, good intonation.
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
Very low tension required for standard tuning, holds tune, good intonation. The black tape looks nice. As expected, there were absolutely no fitment issues. I like the mostly flat frequency response the ETBg2 strings have. I love to play them they are a great match for my Teak body & Ebony fingerboard Jazz Bass (Warmoth). These replaced Thomastik-Infeld flat wounds which I've used for years and also like. The TI strings do stay lively for quite some time and hope the D'Addario strings will as well. On the other hand the DA strings are much less costly and replacing strings is easy enough. ... show more

  • Better than expected.
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
I’ve been exclusively been putting flat or tape wound strings on my basses for over a decade now. These ones are easily my favorite. The sound and smooth feel blow away anything else I’ve tried. Plus they look awesome on my Duff Mckagan Fender bass, which has a lot of black accents.

  • Different feel, sound is bright, helps with fatigue when playing for a long time
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
I started playing bass 20+ years ago and like most people started with round-wound strings. I played flat-wounds for a while too. I had been away from bass for a while and mostly doing guitar stuff. I had a gig coming up where I would have to play bass for an extended period of time. These strings were much easier on the fingers, and since I hadn't been playing regularly, that was a big help. They also have a cool sound. They are much brighter than you would expect. I think I would actually recommend these for a beginner because they make playing easier. ... show more

  • These Strings Are Very Smooth
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
I just strung up my Stingray with the Tapewounds and I think I love them. They have a lot of midrange and they bring out the sound of the Stingray nicely. There is much less string to string variability than I get with Rotosounds. They are incredibly smooth and make one want to make notes ooze by sliding around a lot. ... show more

  • Wrapping was loose on D string, amazon sent me a replacement set in under 48 hours.
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
Strings sound and feel amazing, best I've used for a fretless. The first set they sent me had loose wrapping on the D string. Amazon promptly sent me a replacement set free of charge in under 48 hours. I've tried all the common flats and semi-flats. These are the smoothest feeling strings I have found, perfect for fretless sliding. The low end has a growly tone like a round, unlike most flats that have a boring flat tone on the e string. Would definitely purchase these again for a bass I don't want to put rounds on. ... show more

  • Lost my calluses :-)
Style: Long Scale Size: Medium, 50-105
Ok. First off. This is my first pair of tapewound strings. I've always used roundwound and didn't know any other types of stings. They do sound different (more old school bass sound). I play mostly Gospel music and I love the sound for that. Bottom line is I'm now a tapewound fan and will be for awhile. I did go jam with some folks and played roundwound stings and I lost my calluses on my right hand and after a couple of hours felt it. ... show more
