Description

Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Jeep Compass (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 4,000 lbs. GTW and 600 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. Ordered this for my 2018 Compass sport. The install was decent. Took me about three hours. Used the ratchet straps to drop the exhaust and support enough that I could freely work behind without doing any damage to it. I used a step bit to widen the holes in the frame. Had to take out half of the rear wheel wells to fit my drill back there. It wasn’t so bad but was definitely tedious. I was able to slip the hitch in and use another strap to hold one end up while I fit the other into the carriage bolts, so it wasn’t as terrible as I thought it was going to be. Torquing the carriage bolts was probably the worst part because I had a 5” gap to work in. Seemed to take forever but I got it done. All in all I am happy with the look because the rail is hidden behind the fascia and all you can see is the hitch receiver barely protruding out of the bumper. The installation is definitely not for a person who is not mechanically inclined and requires a lot of patience. All in all great hitch and super sturdy! Personally the install was the most challenging thing. I did so by myself and it required a few tools; tin snips, 3/8 or 1/2 inch impact driver and drill, a cone drill bit (I picked up a Milwaukee one at Home Depot for about $80), a ratchet and sockets, some rope (to hold the muffler). I was able to complete the install in about 45 minutes with zero experience in hitch install. If you’re a Jeep Compass TRAILHAWK owner you’ll notice there are carriage bolts in your vehicle already. DO NOT USE THEM! You must use the provided hardware and install as recommended. QUALITY PRODUCT Has powder coat finish which is resistant to scratching or fading. It can chip however. Nice hitch, is way easier if you remove rear facia, sounds hard but is not. Will only add about 30-45 mins to install and makes it so much easier to install

    • Not an easy install!
This hitch fit my 2018 Jeep Compass limited perfectly. It is a high quality hitch that looks great once installed as only the receiver is visible. But, it was not an easy install. A lot of preparation goes into drilling the frame and cutting the trim. If you have the right tools it makes it easier but still takes time. I used an industrial grade drill and step drill bit to get the holes wide enough to fit the hardware into the frame. This was probably the most time consuming of all. A rotary tool makes cutting a square for the receiver an easy job. There are helpful videos online so just check them out before attempting this. ... show more

This trailer hitch worked on my 2023 compass sport and looks really nice. Trust me determining what accessories work on the 23 compass sport has been a challenge. Many accessories from earlier models work but some don’t and finding information on it is difficult to. I was thrilled to discover that it was the correct style of hitch. I will forewarn you that I highly recommend having a friend help you or you will get irritated flustered even angry trying to manipulate it into place. I did it solo, but I don’t have any friends that live even remotely close to me. There is at least one video that shows installation of this hitch on an older model compass and is very helpful. I believe it’s a curt hitch video. One note regarding the installation they don’t specifically state in the video, when you are sliding the hitch up under the bumper cover panel realize there is a couple of metal brackets behind it that attach to the panel that you temporarily remove. You must place the hitch behind them. I learned this the hard way assuming the holes weren’t lining up because I was pushing back the brackets which prevented the hitch from reaching the correct location. If your vehicle is raised or at least higher in the back this might be more apparent. I didn’t realize for a while. The method used to attach the bolts is a little flustering but it makes a solid connection. Like I mentioned, having at least one friend will help a third would significantly more helpful. This is very durable and does fit onto the jeep compass 2018 model. I can’t say it was easy but it does fit. If you are confused on installation, there is videos on YouTube that explain it pretty well. It aligns up with the holes perfectly and has a nice finish look.

    • Not exactly a bolt-in fit
The holes in the frame are not quite big enough, so you're going to need a die grinder or a good quality step bit for your drill to open those 2 holes up. The exhaust heat shield has to be trimmed with snips. Other than that, it was a pretty straightforward bolt-in install.
