  • Works great!

This filters so well!

  • Great tasting water from a secondary tap in our kitchen
Model: D40A Style: Premium Filtration
Our city water has a lot of softeners added and is not too tasty when consumed straight from the tap (especially if it sits a little while). I added a secondary drinking water faucet to our kitchen sink with the water passing through an under-counter standard size filter housing. We've tried lots of different brands and types of water filters, most considerably less expensive than this Culligan D-40a cartridge. Most don't completely remove the bad taste from the water, and those that do tend to lose that ability within a month or two. These Culligan D-40a filters do an outstanding job with the water tasting great. They continue to do a wonderful job over many months. What we find is that, with time, the flow rate through the filter slows down, even though the water still tastes great. After about 6 months, it becomes tedious waiting for a water pitcher to fill. That's when I know it's time for a replacement. These filters also have the added advantage of being a Level-4 filter - reducing lead, mercury, and a host of other noxious substances as well as microbial cysts. It gives us peace-of-mind to know these potential hazards are being dealt with. Bottom line: I think these filters are worth the extra money given the great tasting water they produce as well as the wide range of hazardous substances they handle. ... show more

  • Good filter, but.... .
Model: D40A Style: Premium Filtration
While the water quality greatly improved, and all chlorine smell had dissappeared, the flow had been reduced. Something that is expected from 0.5u system.

  • "Certifications" of a number of brands seem suspect
Model: D40A Style: Premium Filtration
I did some investigating and "certifications" of a couple of brands weren't widely accepted. My review of that brand was rejected by Amazon. As this one may be for mentioning that. Culligan is well known, has long been well certified by real-deal labs, for decades.

  • OOPS...don't install upside down or there will be a trickle of water...
Model: D40A Style: Premium Filtration
We have used the Culligan D40 cartridge for many years. Living in Los Angeles our water is not the best so filtration is necessary. We have not had any slow flow issues like others have commented until this last purchase. My husband replaced the cartridge like he always does, but this time the flow was down to a trickle. For a week we waited and waited to fill a glass of water from the fridge water/ice dispenser and I was so frustrated. I finally told my hubby to remove the cartridge and I was going to send it back as defective. This has never been the case with previous D40 cartridges we have replaced. They always work fine, have a normal flow and the water tastes great. As my hubby removed the cartridge he looked at the hole at the top and said, " this is way smaller than the other one", then he flipped it over and found he had installed it upside down. He put it back in the correct way and "viola", it worked perfect. Water flow was back to normal, the water was totally clear and free of any taste, and no more issues with the cartridge. So, just an FYI, make sure you are checking to make sure it is installed correctly and not upside down. ... show more

  • A good product and great value for the money
Model: D40A Style: Premium Filtration
I spoke to Culligan customer service technician and the man suggested using an awl (I used a drill) to slightly widen the hole at the top of the filter to increase water flow. It's lowered because of all the stuff it has to pass through. On the cheaper culligan filters (D10 and D20) the flow is much greater, but the filtration is that much less. I don't trust municipal water any more, so I filter my drinking & cooking water with this system and have been pleased with it and with Culligan customer service. ... show more

  • Cuts flow rate
Model: D40A Style: Premium Filtration
New faucets seem to have the flow rate of California's over-regulated requirements. This filter works well but cuts the flow rate even more. If you don't need the extra filtering, select the D20.
