This is a great machine! We put it together, just follow the instructions (took me a minute to figure out the dispenser mounting location). Left the bowel in the freezer overnight, the strawberry ice cream mix well chilled in the fridge overnight (because the wife couldn't wait for the bowel to start making it). Next day started the machine added mix to the bowel and 25 minutes later had awesome strawberry ice cream. It made about 5 waffle cones with a little swirl above the rim of each (just to show how much you'll get from one bowel.

Let me first say that I rarely review products I buy and that I’m generally a big fan of Cuisinart. I have a number of the brand’s products and will continue buying them. But I really felt compelled to offer an honest review of this disappointing product. So here goes: I was looking forward to being able to create my own recipes (high protein, keto) for this soft serve machine. I decided to try a couple recipes from the book first to make sure I’m familiar with the machine using what I would expect to be well-tested recipes. What a huge disappointment. First, the machine is huge, so unless you have counter space for it to “live” or a large accessible cupboard, I wouldn’t recommend this. If I’d kept it I would’ve stored it in the garage (although it was like a logic puzzle getting it back in the box!) and probably rarely used it. But for me, it’s not even worth keeping. The process is cumbersome and takes a long time (over 24 hours from start to finish) - as long as any traditional homemade ice cream machine. So there’s no advantage there. The first attempt, we weren’t quite ready to eat the ice cream when it was ready so it sat there for about 15 minutes. By the time we were ready, it had frozen so hard that the flimsy mixer couldn’t spin Through the thicker mixture anymore. Once it finally thawed to be “spinnable” again, we opened the serving arm and it came out in “plops,” not a steady stream from which you could make a cone. My husband gave up and opened the lid to serve himself with a spoon. Also the name is misleading because the toppings are just that - toppings. There’s no mixing IN to the soft serve like the name implies. We tried a second recipe on the second night we had it and we’re equally disappointed. Furthermore, the cleaning is a challenge. You can’t submerse the machine - obviously - but the receptacle where the ice cream bowl sits gets ice cream all over it and it does not appear to be detachable. For me, it was not worth the money for a large gadget that I’ll rarely use. I’ve read many reviews and am befuddled by claims that this is easy to use or clean or that it’s sturdy. IMHO this was a swing and a miss for Cuisinart. I’m sending it back today. Grateful that we do have that ability.

I guess I was expecting something better, my husband said I should have known better. Candy dispensers are way bigger than they need to be, and they clog easily. Does not dispense ice cream like a soft serve machine, comes out in a glob in cone, it's ok if you are using a bowl. The fudge warmer is a mess. Wasn't the experience I remember as a child, but is anything ever?

Just used this on New Year’s Eve, and I was very pleased. I had to find the directions online and print them because they did not come with the product. We used the Cuisinart vanilla base recipe and it made more than our family of 4 (kids age 12 and 15) could eat. Plan ahead because the freezer bowl needs to freeze for at least 24 hours, and I think the churning would have taken less time (took almost 40 minutes) if we had chilled the vanilla base overnight as well. The Cuisinart vanilla recipe was delicious and I liked that I knew all the ingredients that went into it (very simple recipe). The mix-in feature didn’t “mix in” very well; sprinkles went all over instead of mixing in. And we opted not to use the sauce warmer. Clean up was relatively painless, just a lot of parts. Overall very happy with it.

The instruction manual is moderately helpful so are the recipes, but that’s about it. I ordered this for my child during Christmas expecting quality, I was disappointed. The machine is very slow, and even after doing everything said by others in reviews (such as freeze the liquid over night) it still wouldn’t work. The ice cream would always be too liquidy, like a soup. The machine isn’t very hard to use but it doesn’t work well and the motor is not powerful at all. Cleaning this machine was also a major issue as there were many flaws. When the bowl with the mixture is taken out of the machine after being run, there is some left and it spill everywhere, especially in the machine. This is an even larger issue due to the fact that the area it first spills in basically impossible to clean. One of the main reasons I bought it over others is the mixin capabilities, this didn’t work. I filled one with crushed pretzels one with crushed Oreos and one with sprinkles. The sprinkles was uncontrollable and spilled out, the Oreos took for ever to leave the compartment and so did the pretzels. The crank used to open the hatch to let the ice cream pour out was very messy, when the ice cream started to pour out, some would be left in the hatches path, leaving it very sticky. It didn’t help that this was connected to the other uncleanable part mentioned earlier. The machine was honestly a sticky disaster of low quality. If you’re reading this review you probably want a soft serve machine or ice cream machine believe me this is not it. Save your money don’t get this one. I would advise either getting the Ninja one or Breville. The ninja one is $30 more and the deluxe is $60, the breville one is far more expensive but if you’re budget allows I would highly suggest it, (it’s around $500) (Forgot to say earlier): the texture of the ice cream was really abnormal and terrible, it was a very artificial texture.

Followed instructions and the results, for us was perfect soft serve ice cream at twenty minutes. If you want it made as hard ice cream for scooping go for twenty seven minutes. Would buy again as a gift for Christmas.
