Easy to make and it is much, much healthier for you! Go look at the store-bought ice creams. There are chemicals in the ice cream that people probably shouldn't be eating. Along with tons of sugar! So we got a refurbished unit. Once we got all the parts we were supposed to have, it really worked great. We make homemade ice cream about twice a week now. It is a much better quality and much healthier than what we get at the store. With the high quality, a very small surfing fills you up, rather than eating a lot of the stuff you buy from the store. Also, there are recipes everywhere. This is a great little unit, you push a button, and your ice cream is made. We've also made custard and other things in this. The only thing I would suggest is you buy some ice cream containers to put in the freezer. The plastic ones tend to crack easily, so go for something a little heavier, and that you can pre-freeze so that when you put the soft ice cream in it to harden, it doesn't melt in there. ... show more

This machine is amazing. After a trip to Italy and getting fresh gelato everyday I was spoiled and just couldn’t handle it. This came and changed my life. Now every day is a new flavor. I have even replicated my favorite gelato I got in Malta in San Julian’s.

    • What's not to like?
We've owned different homemade ice cream machines that never were this good. What's not to like about plugging it in and eating homemade ice cream when the bell rings? At first my wife complained about it being heavy, but we soon realized that by being made with a real compressor to freeze the ice cream instead of the old-fashioned way, taking a little extra effort with moving it is a lot better than the extra effort and time of cranking it! We have experimented with different recipes and have found some that we like better than what was in the book. Believe me that's not a problem, that is a journey. The only thing deterring from five full stars is that the timer shuts the machine down a little early and the ice cream is not hard enough in the middle. My wife has learned how to change the settings and extend the running time so that the center is more acceptable. Cleaning is an issue that my wife has not yet found an easy solution. We've questioned if the final ice cream product is as good as the old-fashioned, hand cranked machine. But our conclusion is that it's so close that, especially in our retirement, we really enjoy this product. ... show more

    • Excellent ice cream maker, works very well, replaced my older "freeze bowl" type and I'm never going back!
I'm using this in Luanda, Angola (with a power converter to step down to 110V) where our milk is boxed and UHT. Even then, a couple eggs, some vanilla, milk, sugar, and some fruit make delicious ice cream. While I wish the timer would allow you to add 5 more minutes rather than waiting for the cycle to end and then adding more time, that's such a small nitpick that it's hardly worth mentioning. Prior to this ice cream maker, I was using the type where you have to freeze the bowl. It worked well but after using this one, it's not even a close comparison. No more waiting for the bowl to freeze, no more waiting for a re-freeze between batches, no more taking up precious space in the freezer, and now I can make multiple batches one after the other with no waiting. If you're an avid ice cream maker, like to avoid synthetic ingredients, or just plain want to know what you're putting in your body, the Cuisinart is a great tool. This thing is just plain awesome and I wholeheartedly endorse it. ... show more

I love this machine! Easy to clean IF you don’t overfill it! I used the sugar/calorie/carb free syrup (skinny mixes) in place of sugar on a batch and it was still amazing! Easy clean up trick is to get a glass of hot water to pour around the edges after you empty the ice cream so you can get all of the ice cream out for easy clean up. ... show more
