I have used my Crockpot several times since it arrived and I couldn't be happier!!! I had one with the button controls before buying this one and I hated it with a passion!! But the dial control on this one will never have the issues of the buttons not working! Every time I plugged in the old one I would have to reset the controls and at first it worked, but then gradually it stopped working. Now I wont have that worry! The first use there was an odd kind of burning plastic smell and a tiny bit of smoke. I think it was some sort of film burning off. But it hasn't done that since the first or second use. This giant crock pot is the stuff out of dreams. It's lightweight for the size, you can put in 2 average sized corned beefs. Very durable. However, the low setting runs hotter than the 5qt by 15-20 degrees F, the high setting runs 10 degrees hotter than the smaller ones. All other sizes are fairly universal, this one is hot, so you may want to be mindful of cooking times. ... show more

I have used it several times already before writing this review. The outer part of the crock pot gets hotter than my past crock pot and is a bit flimsier. I won't put it next to anything that might melt or let a small child touch it. Other wise it works fine. I like that is has the warm feature. I LOVE that that it is large enough for a big roast and all the veggies and potatoes I want to cook with it. I will get tons of use out of this. The small one is an OK size for dips.     • Crock-Pot is my go-to Brand for Slow Cookers!

I received my Crock-Pot 8-quart Manual Slow Cooker with 16 oz Little Dipper Food Warmer, Stainless on May 5, 2020. I have used it 3 times so far (once to make a roast and stew, the second time to make barbecue chicken and the third time to try out making rice). I plan to cook a whole chicken next. Slow Cookers may vary but generally, the LOW setting should be about 200 F and the HIGH setting about 300 F. Food cooked with liquid in a Slow Cooker should simmer on low and simmer more vigorously on high. (Note: A simmer is identified by pockets of fine bubbling that give off occasional wisps of steam. It’s ideal for mingling flavors while proteins like meat or beans gently cook until tender.) I cook mostly on low and I got the simmer (mostly around the outsides) and my foods cooked to perfection. The rice was cooked on High but I forgot to look for the simmer. I have had issues with my rice cooker burning the bottom layer of rice and finally gave up using it. I saw on the internet that you can use your slow cooker to make rice so I decided to try it. My Slow Cooker did so much better than my rice cooker that I turned around and bought a very small Slow Cooker (1.5 quart) to use to for making rice. It takes a lot longer than a rice cooker but it did not scorch the bottom layer. Crock-Pot is my go-to Brand for Slow Cookers! When they say it is 8-quarts (or 2, 3, 6, or 7-quarts) it is measured to the fill line and not the rim. Unfortunately, there is not an industry standard for measuring Slow Cookers so with some brands it will actually hold a good deal less than the stated quarts when cooking. This does not happen with Crock-Pots they will hold the amount they claim for actually cooking. I am very happy with my new Crock-Pot!!! There ever was or is! We bought this as a replacement for literally the exact same model only black instead of stainless. It's big enough for nearly anything and the cute little tiny burner as a bonus is cool too but it's not adjustable temp wise and it's default setting is apparently pretty high since it burns the living crap out of queso and will boil most soups and such. But the main crock pot is the reason you buy this and it will serve you well I'm certain and do pretty much everything you ask or need of it! ... show more
