  • Great for go bags
Number of Items: 70
These are great for go bags. It helps when you need to start a fire but can't find kindling. I have these in old pill bottles so they don't get wet.

  • Starts easily when pre-shredded with a short but hot burn time.
Number of Items: 70
TAKEAWAY: Lights easily when shredded and burns really well for about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Very difficult to light as-is. Following the instructions (as well as the pictures in the ad) I managed to twist the starter into two pieces and then with some moderate effort was able to use my nails to effectivly shred each of the halves into small fluffs. At this point, they indeed start with just a spark and immediately burned hot with small flames reaching about 2 to 3 inches high. This flame lasted at that level only about a minute and a half and then started to die down with the flame dropping down to about half that level by the 2:30 mark. by 4 minutes, the flames were, effectively at a level where they were pretty much on their way out and, had these been out in a small breeze instead of on the kitchen stove, would have gone out. By 4:45 they had completely gone out. Out of curiosity, I tried lighting one 'as-is' in its original shape. It was nearly impossible to light, requiring a constant flame from a lighter for about a minute before I could get the corner of it to even remain lit and keep burning. This, actually, is good in that it seems like it would last a long time in storage (in a Ziploc) and not likely to accidently ignite. Pic 1 is after 1 1/2 minutes, pic 2 after 3 minutes and pic 3 after about 4 minutes. ... show more

  • Fire starter
Number of Items: 70
This is a pretty decent fire starter kit, Not sure how well these will do if wet, but easy to prep, and easy to light. Decent burn time to get the fire started with a lighter, or flint. Small size, is easy to stow in a emergency kit. Not bad.

  • Burns almost exactly 5 minutes
Number of Items: 70
These are little 1 inch nuggets of what appears to be cotton soaked in maybe paraffin wax. They are stiff little cylinders. They light really easily though, even with an electric lighter. Not easily enough to light with a spark from a flint, but easy enough if you hold a match or electric lighter to it for 2 to 3 seconds. It goes out easily with a puff of air though, so keep it protected from the wind. When burning, it makes a decently large but just semi-hot flame. However, it burns for a solid 5 minutes with a large flame, then maybe another minute with a small flame so it's good enough to get kindling burning. When burning, it lets off puff of black smoke and smells like a burning candle. ... show more

  • small and only light well if broken up
Number of Items: 70
If you're having to carry these fire starters like on a hike, they are small and easy to store. We are only using them to help get the fire going in our firepit. They are a bit difficult to light, unless you tear them up like in the video and the burn time is not long, so make sure you have some wood and kindling over it to help. Other bigger longer lasting fire starters work better for our purposes, so we likely won't buy these again. These may work for your needs, just know what you are getting. ... show more

  • Tiny fire starters
Number of Items: 70
First, let me say that these are smaller than I expected. They're about the diameter of a cigarette filter, which they resemble, and about 50% longer. I tried one of these out in the fireplace, since that's where I plan to use them, come winter. It's a little difficult to get them to shred with just your bare fingers. You might plan on using a tool or knife, or just a sturdy small stick, if you're camping. Once shredded, they light right up. The seller claims that they stay lit for 5+ minutes, which wasn't the case in my test, or I would have given it 5 stars. It was approximately 3.5 minutes before it died out. That's probably plenty of time, so there was no need to oversell it. ... show more

  • Great addition to the hiking pack for starting fires
Number of Items: 70
This product is pretty small amd weighs nothing almost. I got these to put in my hiking bag for starting fires and not have to deal with the zip lock bag full of cotton balls smothered in Vaseline. They light readily if you pull them apart and the burn time for one that's not intact is between 3 to 4 minutes, plenty of time to get some kindling going and start getting that fire going to cook that camp out dinner. Excellent addition to the hiking bag and the BOB. ... show more

  • Not 5 minutes, but a good value
Number of Items: 70
It has a good flame for up to four minutes and goes out at about 4 1/2 minutes. Not quite the 5+ minutes advertised, but if you can't get a fire started with these you probably have damp or green wood. 70 for $12 is a good price compared to per unit price from other fire starter companies.
