As an urban dweller who lives in a small apartment, trying to find space for a full-sized floor lamp is next to impossible. Plus, the last time I tried squeezing a proper desk lamp (or even more annoying clip-on) in my confined computer work space, I struggled not to knock it over every time I went for my mouse! Fortunately, this handy portable lamp has such a small, sleek footprint that it stows just about anywhere. Yet, its’ metal composite ensures that it stands way more firmly than you would imagine, effectively resisting accidental tipping. Most importantly, since this device is rechargeable, it can be relocated easily — depending on your changing needs over the course of the day. I’ll perch it next to my espresso machine in the morning, then tuck it behind my computer at night when I’m sorting the bills. My wife loves the additional focused light when manicuring her nails or doing her makeup. Plus, it makes a great accent light for decorative pieces as well. This lamp is also extremely useful for those pesky projects in dimly lit spaces — like under the sink, in the closet or behind the media cabinet. What’s more, I never have to worry about the power strip crisis or “wall wart roulette” required when trying to find an outlet for a conventionally powered lamp. Additionally, this lamp features three different settings which can be easily cycled through simply by tapping repeatedly on the small depression which is located on the back of the head. Although not seamless (some “recycling” is often required to hit your desired setting), this method works well enough to avoid that all-too-common “I’m just gonna smash this stupid thing” feeling associated with so many electronic gadgets which promise touch sensitive functionality. I would probably have preferred a simple three way switch (on the base of the device), but I suppose the touch method keeps things more streamlined. The lamp holds a full charge well over the course of the day presuming that it is recharged overnight. However, I haven’t gotten close to the running time/per charge promised by the manufacturer, so if you are using it consistently and forget to charge it one night, then you will probably be left “in the dark” the next day! Also, note that although this unit does includes the USB cable, it does not include a power point — so you will need a USB type wall wart or USB compatible power strip to charge effectively. Although the fully white profile of my unit (it is also available in black) guarantees that it won’t “clash” anywhere in my apartment, additional color options (like silver, blue, red or green) would certainly be appreciated for those seeking a more modern look or “pop of color.” Regardless, this product is a great solution for those with limited overhead lighting, confined space and few power outlets — or just about anyone seeking an easily mobile source of light for project work. ... show more

. The black coating on the metal body is well done and is textured to resist fingerprints. Great looking overall quality. Not glossy and looks really cool to me. Utility and looks is a winning combination. Self powered via battery that is rechargeable via USB C. Very portable for the desk, or a bean bag chair for reading the latest trade magazine. It is bright enough for keeping on a desk to light the work surface in front of where you sit. Lights up the keyboard/mouse area. The metal on/off "button" on the back of the "head" should be at arm's length to be at the light's optimum range. Just a gentle touch on that button and the natural capacitance of your finger operates the switch circuit. I opted for the all plain black unit as it keeps with my office decor. It came in the same packaging as the other options. Includes a USB cable for charging and helpful guide / instructions. Overall good quality. It's fun and utilitarian. I use it every day. It's looking at me right now with it's big 'ole glowing eye. It will keep your parrot off the side table like a sentry. The other options offer one that resembles a penguin and the other wears a hat like half of Saturn. Together they have a male/female look. The pair with one on either side of the desktop would look awesome. But I really dig the plain black. ... show more

    • With lighting facing down is has very small lighting area. Modern looking lamp with good battery.

I like the modern look to this lamp and the matte black as it goes well with the area I have it in. I originally wanted this for my desk where I use my desktop PC but after I turned it on for the first time I found that this light isn't what I had expected. This light isn't adjustable to where you can adjust the lighting area. The light points down with zero movement in any direction. And unless you have this light right next to what you're trying to light up, well, it doesn't do very well at lighting this area. For example I put this on my desk next to my monitor. Turning it on in this location it doesn't illuminate my keyboard and hardly gets any light on my mouse. If I want this light to illuminate my keyboard I have to move it about 12 inches away at the most. The light does have different lighting options which is nice. I like the warmth of the light and for me it works better as an accent light to give my overall area more light. I haven't tested the battery but it does last for a good amount of time before needing a recharge. In fact, I tend to keep a cable connected to it at all times. This way I don't have to worry about needing to charge it and if I need to move the light somewhere I know it'll be charged. ... show more
