This item is a great addition to tree work. You can throw away the pruners you currently use. The chain stays sharp for a long time. The oiling system works great. The battery is long lasting and quick to charge. I cut down several 6" diameter trees with no problems.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: As chain saw users know, chain saw rpm is the difference between a chain saw that cuts well and one that allows the blade to chatter. This small chain saw cuts well and is easy to handle, and being able to use Dewalt batteries is very convenient.

Note first of all that this is NOT a DeWalt-brand saw. The saw can use a DeWalt-brand battery, which is great, but it's not a DeWalt saw. Now for the review: I bought this as a complete set - battery, battery charger, et al. It came in a nice sturdy plastic carrying case that holds everything. The saw itself is adequate. It cuts wood well. I cut down and then cut up into firewood about six saplings about 4" in diameter and about 30 feet tall - alder, cherry, hazelnut, Douglas fir, and big leaf maple. But the included battery lasted exactly one cut of a 1" in diameter cherry branch. The saw struggled a bit with the first cut, but then just didn't work again. I swapped out the included battery with one of my spare 20V DeWalt batteries, and I was able to cut up the rest of the wood with just one charge. The saw itself works well. It's important to use the included pump-action oiler every so often. The saw has an annoying habit of catching thin twigs, such as from the Douglas fir, and jamming inside the yellow protective cover. It's relatively easy to pop off the cover and clean out the twigs, but it kept happening. Also, chips and sawdust from cutting also collects inside the case because the oil makes the chips and sawdust kinda sticky. Again, not a huge issue to resolve - just pop off the cover, clean out the stuff, and you're done. At the end of the cutting session I took off the cover and cleaned out all the built-up gunk. It wasn't a bad thing, and I expect any saw with this design is going to have this problem. It was nice to be able to cut down a sapling, cut off all the side branches, and then cut up the log with just this one saw. I have a separate battery-powered branch lopper (DeWalt) with an interchangeable battery, so I just kept both tools around while I cleared out my yard. I returned this package because of the battery failure, and just bought the saw by itself (B0DP64F9XG). I did not see any difference in the two saws between the full-set version (B0DNMR81HT) and this saw-only offering. (I mentioned in an earlier version of this review that I thought the oil well was larger in the full set version, but I checked again and they're exactly the same. The saw comes with a small bottle of chainsaw oil that is more than enough to fill the oil well at least one time.) Design is nice - easy to handle and carry. Easy to manipulate. I was able to cut up a lot of wood with this. Chain length - adequate for SMALL jobs. You would not use this to cut anything bigger than about 4-5". Cut speed - adequate for around-the-yard chores.

This saw is awesome. I use an only DeWalt batteries for all of my tools. The DeWalt batteries that I currently have for this saw well and are long lasting. The saw I ordered came with an extra chain and a small amount of bar oil. The chain is very sharp. My first use was cutting some limbs on a roof and the saw was very light and worked great. I recommend the purchase of this saw if you like to use one style of batteries (DeWalt) for multiple tools. Very impressed with shipment/price/durability of this saw.

My husband ordered this but then had to go into the hospital for weeks. I decided to try it since the ambulance broke a lot of branches coming in, but it won't start at all, even though battery is green light "fully charged" and also oil drips from the air bubble on top. I'm 4 days outside the return window. SO FRUSTRATING!
