  • Spreader is easy to assemble, but not sure how long it will last.
Size: 21 Cubic
We like the Compost Spreader and are glad we got it but there are a few things that make us question whether it will hold up to regular use with a full load of compost. We figure if we use this 3 times, we’ll be ahead of renting one, even if it breaks. The instructions were very good with the exception of the “Important Note”. All the tools needed for assembly are provided and there was one each extra of the most common fasteners. This spreader is designed like a flat pack piece of furniture to keep the shipping package as small as possible. As we assembled the spreader we noted some of the design compromises that were made to reduce the package size. The 24” connecting bars are made up of two 12” pieces with the connecting point lining up with the seams of the mesh screens. This seems like a weak point (actually four) for the barrel. Also, the threaded inserts in some of the bars were crooked (see picture) which seemed pretty bad but didn’t stop us from completing the assembly. Assembling the mesh screens was straightforward but there is some confusion on the side discs. The side discs are hinged to reduce the shipping package size but the hinges have no function in the completed spreader. There is an “Important Note” (see picture) that says “When installing the side plate, ensure that the side without hinges, the smooth surface, faces inward.” BUT every picture in the instructions shows the smooth surface without hinges on the outside. Since pictures are worth a thousands words, we went with the pictures and ignored the “Important Note”. The final and most significant concerning item is the tee handle which is thin tubing and made of two pieces to reduce the shipping package size. There is significant side to side slop where the pieces are joined in the middle with two bolts. Tightening the bolts more, oblongs the round tube and makes it worse. We considered using some pvc pipe or conduit over the joint to reinforce it but noticed the tubing at each end is only welded at the 4 compass points rather than all the way around. It is probably more likely to fail at the bottom weld of the tee handle so there is little point to reinforce the mid-handle connection. Compost can be heavy and we don’t see this handle design holding up well when you are maneuvering the spreader with a full load of compost. We would prefer to see a heavier gauge single piece tubing from the top handle tee to the bottom tee and full welds. If it breaks, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, be careful with it and definitely don’t assign this chore to your teenager who doesn’t want to do it; it’ll definitely be broken. ... show more

  • Easy to use and assemble!
Size: 21 Cubic
The Hidalife spreader is a nice and convenient tool that has been a great help to me. Rather than shoveling or doing everything by hand, the spreader helps my backpain and makes everything easier to do. Assembling it wasn't as bad as I thought and it was nice of them to include all of the tools needed for set-up. The quality of the materials won't beat something like a premium spreader, but this one will do the trick Just make sure not to be too rough with it and it should last you for some time. If you're looking for a spreader, this one will do the job. ... show more

  • Nice spreader, but needs work
Size: 21 Cubic
This is a nice size spreader and went together easily. I noticed that the handle tube is only spot welded in a few spots and will probably end up welding it all around myself. Having a two piece tube instead of one piece also introduces an unnecessary weak spot. As another reviewer mentioned, they should have used a single tube and accepted the larger shipping size. If I want this to last, I'll have to reinforce the joint somehow. It does a good job of breaking up the big chunks of material and only letting smaller pieces through the mesh. I like that I won't have to screen my compost as thoroughly before spreading. ... show more

  • rolling spreader
Size: 21 Cubic
This was relatively easy to put together. It spreads more evenly than I can with a shovel and rake. It is fairly sturdy. It is easy to use.

  • Wrong pieces
Size: 21 Cubic
You need 4 A parts ; 2 B parts; 2 C parts to make the cage. It won’t work any other way. I got 3 A parts and 3 B parts. One B part was in bag marked as A…..

  • Decent for the price
Size: 21 Cubic
I purchased this for top dressing my lawn, using a topsoil/leafgro mix. Unrelated to this product, the 5 CY of soil delivered was more of a sandy/fine gravel than a heavy organic mix that I wanted. Because of this soil composition, it weighed a lot, which was more than this spreader was defined for. After applying all 5 CY of soil, this spreader is looking fairly run down, for the amount of use. The sheet metal used in fabricating this spreader is relatively thin so it has deformed a little. My lawn has lots of localized settlement issues, so it was a bumpy ride for this spreader. At the end of the day, it got the job done but I suspect after another 10 CY of soil, this spreader will have exhausted its lifespan ... show more
