Got mine installed and did not have the hinge rear to drop access to the wire hookup area. Simple install to the garage ceiling with a pilot hole for a 2" long, 1/4 in width wood hex head with nice big flat washers to support the single center attachment point to the garage ceiling. Ezy pzy and plenty secure. I wanted to be able to turn the fan direction if wanted. Ran 10 ga 2 wire with ground to it from the QUALITY dryer plug bought here at the Zon, and wired the unit. I set on heat level #2 and turned it on. Excellent HOT heat coming out, and 12 feet away the fan is clearly doing it's job. The fan power is fine, the heat is HOT just set on 2, and the only potential drawback for some is the thermostat is not as accurate in function as your whole house furnace is. Who cares? Most are using this for a garage or shop, and some don't want those to drop under freezing when unattended and unused. I set up a remote temp sensor and in a 12 x 25 ft garage, in Omaha NE and if you want to keep your garage above freezing, this unit can do that. Really, it can do that not working very hard. I was thinking this was a big toy, might help a little or might not. I was wrong. This is a serious tool, well made, works, hot heat and fan plenty strong - and all at $109? Are you kidding me?? Can see other uses for this heater, too. This is NOT a toy, works, HOT heat, good fan, makes a bit of mild fan noise but WHO CARES? You sleeping in your garage? I got the ex warranty so if this goes South I'm covered, but by any account this is a nice unit, works, built solidly and if you do your own wiring be SAFE and be SURE to use a GOOD dryer plug with a lot of surface contact to your 10 ga wire. Critical. Tight and solid good connections is important. Get your gas cans out of your garage and into the shed. Read directions and adhere to them. They're there for a reason. My garage ceiling is only 7" but I attached this as high as I could right to the ceiling joists, center factory attachment point with big flat washers to help support. VERY impressive heater at this price point!!! Nice. My only nitpick is they should have made the ground attachment point the same as the two positives, with easy secure attachment. I used the extra wide wire crimper tool to secure a yellow 10ga wire loop to the end of the ground wire, then attached that to the ground point on the unit where they supplied the hex head bolt attachment. Works fine. Just UN-necessary and their trying to maximize profit by saving a buck a copy. No bid deal. GOOD UNIT. PS: The Zon 10 ga 2 wire and one ground wire pricing was way better than the big store big name hardware stores here!!

In reading the reviews I saw several issues with the fan blade nut coming loose. Before installing I removed this and cleaned the factory gunk off the threads. I'd describe what the factory used on the threads as more of a hot glue or RTV. I put a dab of blue loctite and reinstalled the nut, glad I did as the factory schmoo felt soft and rubbery as it might soften and allow the nut to loosen when heated. The nut is a reverse thread, so best not to lose it. Lefty tighty and such, you won't find one at your local hardware store. Aside from the fan nut, it's a resistive electric heater. Amps is is BTU. This heater pulls 22.1 amps a couple inches from the terminal on the heater. This is about 5300 watts, which is in line with it being advertised as a 5000 watt heater, when considering the additional power to turn the fan. 17k BTU of heat for $122. Current draw leads me to believe it's in that ballpark. The fins on the resistive elements appear to be a better design than some units. Brushless fan motor. Thermostat dial has a positive off position and keeps temperature within a few degrees of set point once it stabilizes. Operation is quiet. Measured at a 45* angle to the front of the unit it is 52 dB 1' away and 47dB 6' away. For comparison the 45k BTU gas unit heater in my garage is about 60 dB at 6' from it (10' height vs 8' for this electric unit), and I consider it fairly quiet. I use this to heat a 16'x16' shed with 8' ceiling. Ceiling is partially insulated, walls uninsulated, and the shed is drafty. It gets temp up around 70* with outside around freezing, then I turn it down to the 3000 watt setting and adjust thermostat to hold temp. Once the ceiling is fully insulated and closed in it should only do better. It is wired with 10ga romex to a 30 amp breaker, once my ceiling is closed in and finished I will transition in a ceiling mounted box from romex to MC cable for a short whip to the heater. I think this heater it a good value for a shed or small garage. There's no point in spending a fortune on a fancy resistive electric heater as they all deliver the same heat and efficiency to the space. This one seems to be decent quality so far as fan, enclosure, heating elements, and other components. Just be sure to clean the threads on the motor shaft and nut and put a dab of loctite as I suspect the nut could eventually come off. The factory could secure this nut better with loctite or staking the threads.

This is a good heater for the money. Easy to install, simple circuitry, heating elements vs. spiral wire, SState thermostat, etc. The elements run about 350 degrees at 5000 watts, and the air flow at the face is around 8.5 mph. I use two of these units to heat a double insulated 2000 sq.ft. metal building with three roll-up doors. They can maintain a temperature difference of between 20 and 30 degrees, which is what I was hoping to accomplish with 34,000 btu’s of heat in a 35,000 cf building. Note that this heater does NOT have a fan circuit that continues circulation when the thermostat cuts off. This is a good thing if you plan on using an external thermostat to cut the power as an off and on control. (Originally, I reported that the overheat circuit allowed the fan to run after shutting off the heating elements. However, that was incorrect. The overheat circuit interrupts power to the elements and the fan motor.) As so many have mentioned here, the fan blades are usually loose when this heater arrives. If they aren’t, they will be. Just assume that you are going to need to treat this as a kit that you are going to have to rebuild. Of the two units I ordered, one spun the fan off within 10 hours of use. So I decided to re-build both. I found that the second one also had a loose fan nut, though it hadn’t yet loosened to the point of dropping off. I also discovered that the unit that spun the fan off was missing a washer. There should be two washers; a notched washer behind the fan, and a standard washer in front of the fan. Mine was missing the standard flat washer. Of course, I didn’t know that until I onpened up and rebuilt the second one. As one reviewer mentioned, the fans are not formed accurately, and you need to make sure that the blade edges are even and track properly. I also found one of the fan blades to be well out of balance. After adjusting the blade pitch and balancing the fans, I reassembled the fan and motor assembly using BLUE locktite, and then remounted everything, again using blue locktite all around. As a final note, I just ordered a third unit to have as a back-up in case one of my units fail. Yes - I will rebuild this one without a second thought. So, overall, this gets five stars for value and utility, minus one star for the fan being assembled poorly. LATEST UPDATE: I purchased a fourth unit for use in my soon-to-be-built shop. I ‘reassembled’ my third unit and found that the fan was completely detached when new in box. This unit didn’t even include any of the fan washers! ( Yes - I searched the box and packing materials thoroughly.) Lucikily, the LHT nut and fan hub were in the unit, and I was able to find one suitable washer in my spare stuff, so I was able to get the heater rebuilt. As for the fourth unit, I found the fan assembly complete but the fan nut was barely finger tight. I easily removed the nut with no tools. I believe it would have spun off within a few hours of use (as one of my two original units did). However, all the parts were there, so I reassembled with blue locktite and all was good... until I found two broken rivets on the access door of the unit! So, two spare machine screws and nuts later, the unit was ready to use. So, in summary, of the four units I received, the fan was completely off of one, the fan spun off of another, the third and fourth had loose fan nuts (with the fourth having two broken rivets as well).

OK folks, listen up. I have read a bunch of reviews on several different products like this heater. Some cost a lot more and some a lot less. But you will not find a better deal than this. I decided on this particular one mostly based on one reviewer's statement that it was fairly quiet, and it is. But after I got it, I realized how well constructed it was. This thing is built like a tank. Nowhere does the cabinet get hot, or even very warm. And I found it had several nice features that were not even mentioned in the ad copy. Several people complained about other heaters not having an "Off" position; this one does. The thermostat will turn it completely off. Some people complained about the thermostat only being single pole, meaning it only interrupts one side of the 240 circuit; This one is double-pole, but get this. The thermostat does not control the high current of the heating element; it uses a double pole SOLID-STATE relay. How cool is that?! Besides the thermostat, It also has 3 heat settings; 3,000 4,000 and 5,000 watts. Here is another feature that goes to the engineering quality in my opinion. Many other heaters like this just have bare wire heater coils. The bare wire has a very small surface area from which to transfer heat to the air. This heater has what looks like Kel-rods which have radiator fins press onto them, similar to an A/C condenser or evaporator coil. This provides many many times more surface area to transfer heat to the air. The Kel-rods do not get extremely hot (no red) like bare coils do, so they don't waste energy heating the coils red-hot. Now a word about installation. First and foremost, DO NOT believe another reviewer who said it needs a 25 AMP breaker. Not only is he wrong, but both common sense AND the manufacturer state that a 30 AMP circuit is required. That means BOTH 10 ga. wire AND a 30AMP breaker. And even then both the wire and breaker get warm after extended use. Not hot, but warm. Some people mentioned using a separate service switch. Instructions do not mention it and this unit CAN be turned off. I did install one. I used an Industrial 30 Amp double-pole switch, which looks and fits just like a standard light switch. Costs about $11 bucks, but cheap if you want a 240 volt switch. I also recommend using stranded wire which would go in some kind of conduit, either solid or flexible. 10 ga. solid wire is VERY difficult to work with especially if you decide to use a switch. Now about the heat. Keep in mind that BTU is BTU. I got this mainly to try and replace my propane heaters because when it's really cold, they just pump too much moisture into the air for my uninsulated metal shop. Eventually it will be insulated. I have been using UP TO 70,000 BTU propane heaters to quickly heat up on cold days, so the 17,000+ BTU of this heater is not a fair comparison. But how well anything heats probably depends as much or more on the weather conditions and insulation. My shop is about 625 sq. ft. and even with 2 other 120 volt heaters, it would barely warm it up (14' peak roof also). So I saved the best until last. What better recommendation is there except that I ordered another one? Hopefully, 35,000 BTU will suffice for most conditions at least until I get it insulated. I will hook the second one up to be portable since I already have a heavy duty 10/4 cable.

I bought 3 of these heaters from 2 vendors. One was a $150 5kw and I ran it for 2 winters to set the garage temperature to 45 degrees which was perfect for melting snow off of a Trip to Audis at the Mackinnaw bridge. 45F is perfect when it is -10f. It held with garage insulation all winter. Season 3 it failed. Purchase #2 developed a slight noise and is beginning its 2nd hard winter. (If you don't like the idea, buy a gas for $3500 installed and include the natural gas bill. I will replace it again if it fails for the energy differences with no exhaust pipes for fuel to replace the 30a./240V unit that selects 1800w, 3000w and 5000w. I have an insulated 28ft by 36ft /3-car garage with insulated doors. I have had gas and installation of Nat. gas runs quite a bit more than PIE&G electric. One more thing in winter storms a 20kw natural gas generator works very well if a tree breaks your power poles It will run two of these heaters. The heater is top left running them in 5kw on each heater is pushing it split them a 3k and 5 like I do on a hundred amp service I am very pleased with the low cost and ease of installation The one on the right is plugged into the welder plug

I was looking for compact heater to heat a single car garage. I read the reviews on the heater and saw many comments talking about a loose fan. When my unit arrived I inspected the unit for any loose parts, specifically the fan. There were no issues with my unit. I had an existing 4 prong 240V outlet, so I also ordered a 10 ft. 4 prong dryer cord. I did have to consult some articles on how to wire a 4 wire cord to a unit that was designed for 3 wires. It was very easy to wire it up. I mounted it to the ceiling as you can see in the pictures. I did require another person to complete the install. The unit makes the garage space comfortable work in when it is cold outside. I had to take some time to dial in the temperature I wanted. I simply turn my unit on/off by plugging it in when needed. I knew that the unit did not have a remote control so I was willing to spend some time experimenting with the temperature control. It also has 3 power level settings, 3000W, 4000W and 5000W. I run mine at the 4000W level. Very pleased with the unit and think it is a good value for the price.

This ceiling mounted heater came packaged safely and securely. Item was new and wasn't missing anything whatsoever. The instructions were a bit vague but let's face it. If you are purchasing this heater than I assume you noticed that it say's "hard-wired" in the title, I hope. Now for any of you that don't know what that means. It means that you will have to wire this thing to your breaker panel yourself. It does not come pre-equipped with a power cord/wall plug. You will have to order or go to the store and buy the appropriate 10/2 AWG, copper, insulated and grounded wire, as well as flexible conduit, and the appropriate 30a breaker for your panel if you don't already have an empty one inside your panel that is functional and not currently being used by something else. And that is assuming that this is the method in which you plan on using. If you do not know what I am saying and this is all gibberish to you then I highly suggest you seek professional help or keep on looking for something that doesn't require you run cables through your walls/attics and mess with anything inside your breaker panel because if done incorrectly you can injure yourself quite badly. In other words. You will likely be electrocuted! And not the fun kind of electrocuted either... That is only the risk to your person directly. the next major consideration is that, if done incorrectly, you will likely cause a fire at the breaker panel or at the heater itself or even anywhere down the length of cable that you installed yourself in which was not the correct choice for a lot of you out there that don't know exactly what you are doing in regards to electrical installation of a high voltage appliance such as this heater. So, long story short. Please do your research and make sure you know what you are getting into, what is required of you, and what the risks are if you decide to take this on yourself without any training or professional supervision. Please be safe and be smart. This heater kicks A$$ though in every way! Take care and stay crispy... ;p

I installed this heater in my 20'x30' uninsulated garage with a 10' ceiling. I put it over the window for least obstruction with anything else, the 2x4 mounting board about 2' from the wall. The bottom of the heater is about 7.5' from the floor. After playing with the thermostat over 2-3 weeks, I dialed in what seemed reasonable for me. I have two 20" Patton floor fans (actually all metal, high velocity air circulators) mounted in the ceiling joists near the rear of the garage to provide cooling in the summer. When running heat, I always run one of the fans on low, aimed slightly up to keep the wind off me and circulate the warm air from the heater. That makes it useable to warm the garage. I basically use propane to heat the garage, but wanted to try this style heater as a supplement to propane. I also wanted an electric heater to be able to run all night on the occasion when there is an unusual cold snap and I need to keep the garage about 40*-45* all night. I don't want to run propane all night, just my preference. I found this heater to work well. It may not heat the whole uninsulated garage by itself to about 60*, but does maintain that temperature when I turn off the propane. I do like having three power settings, and the thermostat works well. You will have to try your own unit in your particular space to figure out the best thermostat setting for you. My unit seems to hold about 60* set on the 12:00 position on high setting, 5000W. An insulated or smaller space may be different. As per other reviews, I checked the fan bolt and other frame/grill screws before mounting it. All were tight. I got this for $80 on Amazon and am happy with it. I had wondered if a 7500W heater may have been better, but they were around $200+. So after 2 months of thinking, I decided to buy another CZ220 unit. That would be a total of about $160, and give me power options of 3000W to 10,000W and everything between. They had gone up to $100 here, so I looked around and found the same unit on Wayfair for $76, plus 2 discounts which made it $55. I installed the new one the same way, exactly opposite from the first heater, over the other window. The combination of the units are great! I am very happy, and I don't need the propane heater unless I want a faster warm-up. It takes about 1-1.5 hours with each unit on Med, 4000W, and the ceiling mounted fan on low to get from 40* to near 60*, at freezing temps outside. another hour or so and it gets a little over 60*. For good measure, I added 2 lighted switches to help me remember to turn them off at the end of my day. I included the general measurements and temps and settings to help others judge their own needs accordingly. That specific info helps me a lot when I read reviews. The pics show the 1st unit, closeup with safety straps, lighted switches, 2nd heater and a 20" fan mounted on ceiling joists.
