  • A really good raincoat, light and tight where it needs to be
This truly is a pocketable coat you can pull inside out one of the pockets and crush into a ball and zip it right up into a 4 x 4 pack. It is more than water resistant, it is waterproof, and with the hood up and draw string you really do not need an umbrella. I also trot along with a 13 inch backpack underneath to keep things from getting wet on occasion. The sleeves terminate in cuff with Velcro straps that can hold them out of the way, or be used to sinch the cuffs to a custom fit. I bought this just before heading out on a trip to Seattle, a really rainy city.. and kept my Mobile phone just under the velcro cuff on one side running Google Maps to help me get around. It has a liner, and it does a good job of breathing without being damp or clingy the material is like a netting (black) feels almost like a cotton net but not at sticky or natty.. its "neat". Drys quickly. And I wore it on a Trip to Mt Locke in West Texas at the McDonald Observatory.. it gets very cold out in the Desert at night, but this was plenty warm. There is just enough "airspace" captured inside when you want it to claim some heat and hold on to it to keep you warm. It's not a parka, but its really versatile and has become one of my go to jackets for bad weather. Its not what you wear on a calm sunny day, but first sign or wind, overcast, cooling temps.. I grab this and toss it in my other jacket pocket just in case. Better than an Umbrella! ... show more

  • I like the fit and features
Color: Black Size: X-Large Tall
Bought XLT. I am 6'3" Sleeves plenty long. I like the zippered pockets. It may be watertight, but I treated it with silicone spray just in case. Didn't affect the color. Nice, lightweight, covering for layered travel.

  • Great jacket, worth the purchase!
Color: Graphite Size: Small
I got this jacket for myself and I absolutely love it! Of course it is a little long as I order a male jacket and I am a female, but it is just as I expected and works perfect to keep my back dry! I am a 5'5" and 140 pound female, and the small jacket fits perfectly! I got this jacket for my trip to Italy, and it was definitely worth the money! It did rain quite a bit while on the trip, so I am really glad that I brought it. It starting pouring down rain, my jacket was completely soaked and so were my shoes (no way to help that), but everything under the jacket was perfectly dry! The rain just rolls off the material. The jacket even dried very quickly so I was able to pack it up. Like others have said, it can be easily packed into a pouch, which is one of the pockets of the jacket. When packing it up, it comes out wrinkly but they quickly disappear after wearing the jacket for a short while. I really like how the two hand pockets zip close and how there is Velcro that goes over the front zipper to keep you dry. The inside of the jacket is a mesh material, which some many be weary about but I did not find myself uncomfortable at all. Another reason I went with this jacket is that there is the ability to tighten the bottom of the jacket to fit tighter. The jacket also kept me slightly warm, and I was even able to wear a sweatshirt underneath with plenty of room. It is the perfect rain/cool weather jacket. Obviously it is not meant to keep you warm in very cold weather, but on a cool summer night, this jacket would work great. I have never really had a good rain jacket before so it is difficult to compare it to much. However, I would definitely purchase this again and I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone!! ... show more

  • Overall I am very happy with this jacket
Overall I am very happy with this jacket. It works especially well for those who spend a lot of time outdoors camping, fishing, hiking, etc. The areas that I think are the most important to consider are water resistance, comfort, breathability, and fit. 1.) Water resistance - I have owned this jacket for a couple months now, and I have had it out in steady rain and downpours. It has not leaked at all. The true test will come with time as the waterproof coating starts to wear off, but so far so good. The seams have extra waterproofing that you can see, which is very important because that’s where other jackets usually start leaking from. 2.) Comfort - I was impressed with the comfort of the jacket, the mesh lining keeps the waterproof fabric from getting too close or sticking to your skin, especially when it’s hot outside. It doesn’t have that ‘plastic’ feeling on the lining that other jackets, especially in the sleeves. It is packable by pulling the left pocket inside out and stuffing it into itself. The zipper is two-way, which allows you to zip it up when you pack it. 3.) Breathability - It is very breathable! I mostly use it when I am fishing, and most of the time I am out when the humidity is above 90% so it is important to me that I don’t get soaking wet from sweat. I don’t want to be wet from rain or sweat. The zippers in the armpits are very handy and make a huge difference, they are also very convenient to use. 4.) Fit - The fit was perfect. (I am 6’3’’ 190 lbs.) The reviews that I read before buying it had me debating whether or not to get the XL; some said that the sleeves tend to be on the shorter side. The sleeves aren’t too tight so when it gets colder it will be easy to put more layers on. It’s long enough to cover my pockets completely so I don’t have to worry about its contents getting damaged, which is nice. Pacific Tech made my last rain jacket, which was also pretty good. The waterproof lining on the inside did eventually wear out and was no longer waterproof, so that’s why bought a new one. It did have stronger zippers than that of the Columbia, which is my only complaint. This jacket cost me about 38 dollars. I would have preferred a black one, but that was about 20 dollars more. It is a high quality jacket that provides exceptional water protection, comfort, and performance. It is well worth the money! ... show more

  • The Columbia Watertight II is also a great windbreaker
Color: Black Size: Large
Really impressed with this Columbia Watertight II jacket. When first ordering, I wanted the MED size, but it was out of stock. Anticipating some rainy weather, I opted to deal with the large--and if it didn't fit well--I'd return it. For about $46+ (price has increased to $51+ as of this post), this jacket had all the right qualities I'd been looking for (water and wind resistant/proof, adjustable hood and price). Lucky me! It fits nicely (not as snug as I wanted, but good enough). It's good around the chest area, but a little generous around the waist. Not bad though. Used it twice so far, for riding the bike at night (commuting). I live in the Magic City, so the weather this time of year is often perfect (upper 70s during the day and 60s at night). Well, some nights are a bit nippier (upper 50s), and I'd already "dealt with" some cooler night rides. I love that weather too, but didn't want to increase chances of getting sick. Wind doesn't help, and the prediction of rain would really spoil the commute. Even a light mist will soak you in minutes, when traveling at 12-18mph (plus wind). Since we're talking about a hybrid bike with a rack, and not a road bike, the commute usually involves shorts and a shirt in daylight (with a change of clothes inside the knapsack--on the rack), and a return night trip with the possible addition of long sleeve, henley-style shirt. For all you folks up north, my apologies...this review describing relatively nice weather is not meant to cause any issues. Hopefully it can help when the Spring comes around. Well, the Columbia Watertight II packs nicely in a knapsack. There is mention (on the manufacturer's label) of some "hidden" pocket for packing it. The mysterious pocket is REALLY well hidden, for I have yet to find it. I decided to fold the jacket on itself, roll it up and stow it in the hood (possible missing pocket?), then stuff it in a 8.5"x11" padded envelope (to save space in the knapsack). The padded envelope is not essential, but it keeps things separated. Though not very pretty, it works for now. I'm sure a nylon zip bag would be even better. So far, I've used the jacket twice. Both nights were clear and cool (upper 50s, maybe low 60s). With the flu going around, I didn't want to tempt fate. Well, let me tell you...this jacket ROCKS! When I first tried it on (at home, of course), it was a bit awkward. The zipper (a nylon flap covers the zipper making this a right-handed zip) is a bit smaller than normal (not sure why, since it's an easy fix), but comes with a cord attached to help pull it up or down. It zips cleanly both up and down. There are velcro strips (hook and loop, if you prefer) along the zipper line, to help seal the front of the jacket from wind and rain. The velcro can be a little annoying at first, especially to those of us not used to dealing with the zip+velcro combination. After wearing a few times, it's no longer an issue. When un-zipping with one hand, simply use the other to help un-stick the velcro. On the road, this Columbia Watertight II jacket blocks or diverts the wind completely. The material really doesn't let any wind through. The hood is adjustable, with a nifty tighten-loosen system. A stretchy cord woven into the hood has ends that exit at the base of the hood, on either side. Each of those ends fit through a small cylinder (on each side of the hood) that gently holds the cord snug and in place. Pull on the cord just enough, and it will either loosen or tighten. Pretty good system, since the material is light weight. There is a token lip/visor at the top of the hood, but no support or insert to keep its shape correctly. Ah well, not bad anyway. The jacket interior is lined with a mesh material that feels nice and it prevents your arms from sweating directly onto the inside of the nylon jacket material. On a cool night (upper 50s), this Columbia Watertight II jacket was immediately comfortable and retained body heat inside. Within seconds, I felt the difference between just wearing the two shirt combo (short sleeve + henley) and adding this very lightweight jacket. While riding, it was a pleasure to wear, by allowing me to keep comfy and preventing wind from buffeting my ears (the wind isn't bad at all, but seems to pick up tremendously while riding). After arriving home with some heat build up, the jacket was very easy to remove. My arms did not stick to the inside and I wasn't sweaty. As mentioned above, it's very light, so you can hang it anywhere. Due to the good heat retention, my guess is that it has limited breathability (Mr. Webster, is that a word?). For now that's fine. Am thinking that if it does become an issue, a trusty old henley underneath will solve the problem. I give this product 5 stars for wind resistance and heat retention in cool temps. I'm confident it would keep you somewhat comfortable down into the windy 40s, with just a long sleeve shirt underneath. For the 30s, I'd be sure to wear more layers (including a sweater). Other buying options I checked into were on Columbia dot com's website. It's on sale there for $59.99, but also involves "points". Keep an eye out for follow up review after the rains come... ... show more

  • Great jacket! Warmer than you’d think
Color: Black Size: XX-Large
I bought this jacket on a last minute whim for a snow day trip to Tahoe. I have thicker and nicer jackets but they’ve all become less waterproof over the years. This was the only jacket I could find that was affordable with next day shipping that also didn’t look like some big fluffy Sherpa’s parka. I’m also a big guy, and by big I mean fat beer gut dad bod. When it arrived I thought I made a terrible mistake. This jacket is about a hair thicker than a hefty garbage bag. Certainly a jacket this lightweight isn’t going to work well in the snow? I did wear thermal undies, a thick polo shirt and a thin sweater underneath, and this jacket actually kept me dry and warm the entire day in the snow! A beanie under the hood helped as well. The sleeve length is perfect, I think I’m a 33/34, length was perfect just below the waist and it fit over my stomach and zipped up fine. Jacket size was XXL. Amazing jacket for the price. ... show more

  • More Than a Rain Jacket
Color: Black Size: Medium
A Review of the Columbia Men’s Watertight Rain Jacket The Columbia Men’s Watertight Rain Jacket is a lightweight waterproof jacket with a slim design. As the name suggests, the jacket is very much capable of keeping you dry on a rainy day; however, its value goes way beyond a rain coat. Here are several features that make this jacket a wonderful addition to your wardrobe. Waterproof and Windproof This jacket is truly waterproof. It helps you stay clean and dry even in the pouring rain. With the waterproof technology comes the wonderful stain repellent feature. No matter how dirty the jacket gets during a rainy day, a simple wipe is enough to take care of it. The windproof feature provides an extra protection against the cold. Meanwhile, the fabric is still breathable that it allows moisture vapor to move away from the skin. The only downside is that the waterproof feature can post difficulty when it comes to washing this jacket. You may find a pouch of water when you take it out of the washer. An extra cycle of drying will take care of the issue if this ever occurs. Design This jacket is lined with a soft layer of mesh and is very light weight. The longer arm length and body length provide enough coverage to keep you dry no matter how hard the wind is blowing. The hood comes out far enough forward to shield your face while the drawstring helps keep the hood on even in strong wind. Two front pockets with zipper are big enough to protect a phone, a wallet, a set of keys, and even a pair of gloves from getting rained on. The slim design delivers a more modern look than its competitors, helping you keep the style even on an awfully crummy day. Meanwhile, the jacket is still generous with space around your chest so that you always have enough room for a sweater or a hoodie or even a coat. Another notable feature is that the entire jacket can be packed into the front left pocket, which comes with a double-sided zipper. Versatility Few jackets are as versatile as this one. The waterproof and windproof features make this jacket practically perfect for a fishing trip. The breathable fabric makes sure that you can throw this jacket over your favorite tee on a rainy day in the middle of the summer. You can also layer up under this jacket for fall or winter use. The matt finish and the slick look ensure that no one knows you are using a rain jacket as a spring/fall windbreaker. You can also use this jacket to protect your pea coat from getting wet on a snow day. Overall, the Columbia Men’s Watertight Rain Jacket is a high quality jacket that can be worn in many occasions. It surely has room for improvements. But for the price you are paying, you can hardly find a better deal than this. ... show more
