Frequently asked questions

Yes, the Glennaker Rain Jacket is waterproof. It is designed with Columbia's patented 'Omni-Shield' technology that repels moisture and dries quickly to keep you comfortable and dry during rainy seasons.

This Rain Jacket is a lightweight shell, designed to protect you from rain and wind. It doesn’t provide a lot of warmth on its own. It would be best to layer the jacket with other pieces during cooler weather for added warmth.

It is cut in a versatile, modern classic fit that is comfortable and allows room for layers underneath without being too baggy. However, the jacket's sizing closely follows Columbia's standard sizing chart recommendations.

Machine wash is permitted for this rain jacket, but it is advisable to use mild detergent and cold water. Tumble dry on low. For increased longevity, you should avoid ironing and bleaching.

  • Excellent
This is an excellent lightweight jacket, well suited for cool days in early spring or fall. It keeps me dry in typical west coast weather. The fabric breathes enough that I don't feel too warm coming indoors. It looks good. I get compliments. I want a jacket that doesn't look junky. Glennaker just looks good. It fits well. I am medium-heavy build, 6 foot, and normally take men's XL. The Glennaker XL is a good loose fit. I can lift up my arms without the jacket riding up over my belly. The length in the torso allows me to relax. It's well made. The material and stitching is good. The zipper is simple and metal and doesn't catch on the fabric when you zip up. Don't you hate jackets that have fiddly zippers! This zipper is good. The hood is concealed inside the collar. Some jackets of similar design use fabric too heavy for the hood, so when you roll it up inside the collar, it stands up against the back of your neck. This one doesn't do that (unless I want it to, e.g., on windy days, zipped up all the way). I turn the collar down, and it stays down, and it's comfortable. The picture on your left is accurate in that regard. The inside pocket closes with velcro. If I could change one thing, it would be to move the pocket closer to the shoulder, but it's fine as is. (I tend to carry a lot of stuff in the pocket.) This is my favorite lightweight jacket. It packs flat and is very good value. I like it so much I bought another in a different colour for backup. Notice: The photograph for Mountain/Collegiate Navy is wrong. It should show navy shoulders and moss green torso. Hope that helps! ... show more

  • Good Price on a Good Jacket
This is a light weight rain jacket. It zippers well which is my main complaint about my old jacket. Even with the hood packed in the collar, the lines of the jacket are nice. I particularly like that it is available in a tall. I hate buying stuff in a size that is too large just to get the length I need. The fit on this jacket was spot on. I also like the inside chest pocket that is designed to allow the jacket to be crushed and pushed into the pocket. They call it a packable pocket. I don't see myself doing that but I do like the inside chest pocket for general use. The jacket also has a draw string bottom which is another good feature. I think there is a lot of bang for the buck in this jacket. I saw some reviews complain about sweating in the jacket. Since it is fall and chilly I have not noticed that. ... show more

  • Good fit, kept me dry during daily showers hiking on the Big Island.
Color: Canyon Sun, City Grey Size: XX-Large
Bought a pair of these for my spouse and I last minute for a week on the Big Island. The 2XL was a great fit for me (5'11"/260lbs) - I had ordered a 3XL as I normally would do due to my wide shoulders, and it was huge on me. My only con is the color was a little more drab than the picture (no biggie), I was expecting a more vibrant "street sign" yellow. Was perfect for hiking on the Big Island between sea level and 6000ft with only a short sleeve or long sleeve quick dry shirt underneath. ... show more

Happy with the purchase. Didn’t have a chance to try it in the rain yet. Nice color, material, quality and fit.

  • Roomy, comfortable, effective, easy to store
Color: Harvest/Shark Size: X-Large
I love this jacket. I couldn’t find a women’s jacket that was in this price point with all the same features, so I bought a mens. The hood stows away in its own little velcro pouch, the sleeves can be closed around your wrist, the waist also cinches in for added protection. The best of all is that is has an attached stuff sack for when it is dry, making it super convenient to throw in a backpack, diaper bag or a purse. It has a little extra room (I ordered a men’s XL) and there is plenty of room for layers underneath for colder weather. I would absolutely recommend this jacket to anyone! ... show more

  • I love this jacket!
I'm a tall bloke (6' 7") and I don't tend to like heavy coats, but lo and behold, I don't like getting wet! This is a nice wind breaker/rain jacket. I suppose it's a bit better at protecting the rain than blocking the wind, and it's not perfect at either. As I often layer up under this, it's quite good enough in both regards. I've read quite of few reviews here complaining about heat retention, and yes it happens. I tend to layer, so I just take it off, but of course there are times when it's raining and I'm getting hot. As I paid like $25 for this, I'm cool with that. I suppose if I paid 3x that, I'd probably expect more. I found the size to be true to my other Columbia outer wear and my overall 2XLT size, but us giants aren't quite so picky as folks with more common sizes who have more options. We're fashion outcasts, so a half inch here or these is more of a nuance than a reason to complain. ... show more

  • Perfect coat for the moisture farmer on Tatooine... Or in rain.
Pros: Has a nice look and keeps rain out and it is at a fair price. Travel Ready Cons/Pro (depending on point of view): I I for any reason some day become lost in a desert; I hope I have this coat with me for some reason. After just a few minutes of walking in this, there suddenly is a collection of moisture throughout the dessert. At first; I had worn it with a short sleeve shirt and could feel it stick to my arms, so thought it was just collecting sweat with being as water resistant that it is just not letting the humidity escape. But then; I have had it on in cool weather with a sweatshirt underneath without sweating yet somehow, it is still soaked. Bottom line is that this coat does good against rain and wind; and conveniently packs away into its own pocket, but it probably should be reserved as such. I am not sure but they might be able to get around that if they had some mesh, cloth lining in the sleeves to at least keep some sort of breathable, non-stick material to hopefully trap some moisture or at least keep it from sticking to arms with a short sleeve shirt on. ... show more
