I ordered two pairs for a total of four chairs. Overall I am happy with them, they're the design style I was looking for and affordable. However, there are a few things I want to highlight for those who are deciding whether or not to buy this chair. As others described in their reviews, it's not the easiest to assemble (~45 min per chair) and requires a decent amount of calibration and luck to get the chairs to not wobble. Two of the hex screws are annoyingly difficult to tighten because of their positioning, it's by far what took the longest. Screwing in the seat into the base of the chair is also kind of a pain because there are no screw holes or markings on where to anchor them in. One of the chair legs arrived broken. Thankfully Christopher Knight's customer service is pretty good and got me a replacement part which took about nine days from the initial complaint submission to receiving the part. I'm thankful they sent just the part I needed and not another whole chair, it's way less wasteful. They're pretty lightweight (~11lbs/chair), I used to have a few chairs from what I suspect is the same manufacturer that I bought a few years ago and they held up just fine. It's good practice to check in every once in a while to make sure the screws are still tight. ... show more

Nicely designed albeit slightly uncomfortable. The chairs look quite lovely and appear far more expensive than they actually are. However the seat cushions are not very comfortable especially if you are sitting for a long meal or a night of tabletop gaming. I am also not quite certain how sturdy the seat cushions would be over the long haul especially with a lot of use by anyone over 200 lbs or rambunctious kids. They look nice though. ... show more

    • Tips to ease the assembly pain!

Thanks to the great taste of my late mother we have several authentic mid-century modern pieces. From Indonesia, these rubberwood chairs will not pass for real walnut but that’s of little importance these days. You don’t see real walnut anywhere. The overall design is credible yet the shape of the seat is not a great aesthetic match for the virtues of true mid-century modern. Since you are reading this, you are of course considering ordering them. Like me you may be wondering if the building process is THAT bad? Yes, but let me help you save most of the aggravation. Read on: First, you’ll be using the tiny provided Allen wrench for literally hundreds of turns. To save yourself two hours of pain, first go to your local discount W-Mart store, or a big box hardware store.Look for a cheap screwdriver kit with many changeable ends, including various Allen wrench fittings. What you want to use for assembly is a long screwdriver fitted with the same common size Allen head as is included with these chairs. Next, the instructions start out well, and stop making sense when it comes time to put the seat on at the end of the process. They don’t tell you but the wider end of the seat goes on the front. As you likely know by now, there are no screw holes or guides for lining up the seat. Flip the nearly assembled chair on top of the seat and do your best to line it up side to side. Find a spot toward the middle and measure to get it symmetrical. Yes, it is aggravating but you will succeed, I promise! You will need a 1/16th inch drill bit to drill four pilot holes into the side of the chair. Using a screwdriver bit on your drill, drive the other four small screws straight into the chair back with no need for pilot holes. Lastly, the finish does not look much like the photos. There is no sheen and I’m hoping these will benefit from some furniture oil to improve the dry look of the wood. One can of Scotchguard is just enough to help protect four seats. We had hoped the dark color of the wood would match our espresso dining table, also made of Rubberwood. Nope, these are much lighter yet are attractive. One final note: These are slightly shorter in the seat than most dining chairs. About an inch lower. Depending on your own height, you might find your elbows staring up at the silverware! ... show more
