Overall I'd say this is a great blackout shade. The hardware quality is slightly on the lower side--too much plastic in my opinion. But it does the job. Two little problems... for whatever reason there's a little edge on one of the parts that prevents the chain from hanging straight down. You can see this in a couple of the pics. The edge is small so it almost seams like just a mistake in the design. Oh well, just be aware of it. The second little problem is the installation. The instructions are lacking on detail, but no biggie. Some inspection reveals a spring loaded pin on one end... that helps a lot! But in terms of how far apart the ends should be, you just have to eyeball it. Mount one end, hold it up there, mark where the other end should go, screw it in. Just make sure it's level! Otherwise when you lower the shade, it may be quite noticeable it's not perfectly vertical.

I really like the shades themselves. They are good quality and the pull chain is metal, not plastic. They appear that they will do a decent job of blocking outside light. There is a design flaw in the brackets however. It may be that I measured the inside window frame incorrectly. The first shade I tried to mount for perfectly...but without enough leeway to get the pin side into the bracket. A slot should be in the bracket for the pin so it can be slid into the slot and then positioned. If that were the case I wouldn't have had such a problem. I'm going to try roller shade brackets from the hardware store to see if that design is satisfactory. If not will return second shade and get something else. Too bad, wasted a lot of time on this which should've been easy.

If you don't have double pane windows these shapes can save you plenty on heat bills. They also do a fine job blocking out headlights if your window faces a road. They are not made of the sturdiest material but seem to be hold up fine. If you need complete darkness to sleep these shades will do the trick.

The media could not be loaded. This blackout, thermal roller shade has made a significant difference for my kitchen's garden window. Dealing with a single-paned, drafty aluminum frame has been a challenge until I installed this shade. It blocks out the cold during winter and keeps the heat inside during warmer months, making my kitchen much more comfortable, especially during December's chill. Installing it solo was easy and took less than an hour. However, the chain used for adjustment is quite long and unfortunately not adjustable. Additionally, due to the hardware setup, there's some light leakage on the sides of the window. Despite these minor issues, the shade's temperature-regulating ability outweighs these concerns. I highly recommend this window shade!

Easy to Install.Lightgrey,40" W x 72" H This does a great job of blocking light. There is some light leakage on the edges but that is to be expected with any blind. They are attractive and easy to wipe clean. It installed relatively easily, but the instructions are terrible. The instructions basically say assemble it and put it up. At one point it states to measure the distance from one end of the blind to the other with the end caps in place, but they don’t tell you how to use that measurement. I have already installed similar blinds so had little trouble with these. The mounting brackets have two long holes and a round center hole. Just use the outside long holes which will give you a little adjustment leeway if you end up with them too tight or too loose. I will say don’t fully snap the spring pin end into place until you have made all adjustments. I am not sure exactly how to pull the shade out once it is firmly in place (probably a skinny flat head screwdriver poked around the spring pin). The chain mechanism that you use to lift and lower the blinds is fussy and difficult to roll. It doesn’t roll smoothly. When you install it, place the bracket that the chain runs through at the lowest (under tension) spot that you can and then raise it a /quarter inch otherwise the chain might not pull/rotate. It does work. It just doesn’t work as well as other blinds I’ve installed and used. I’ve waited a while before posting this review. After using this for a week, it is rotating more easily though still a little rough.
