This water heater will work great for buckets. I think it would work fine for watering bowls or dishes. It didn’t work for me because I use a bucket with the spring watering cups installed outside the bucket to water my chickens. The water outside the bucket in the cups will freeze up make them unusable . That’s why I gave it 4 stars not 5 . Which might not be totally fair . The heater is as described, well made and constructed and I feel was a good value. I just didn’t use it as it was meant to be used. I did purchase one of the chicken waters with the heater and it work great . Good luck take care . ... show more

I am using this with a plastic waterer (5 qt domed) and it actually works! The water has frozen just about every night. Last night we were at 20 degrees so I refilled the water. And hooked it up. This morning the water was still liquid and the chickens were happily drinking. The cord is also nice and long, so I was able to put it through a hole in the shed to an inside outlet. Product heat well when the water container on top of it is light, and stopped working if I put heavy thing on it. But my chickens easily flipped it if it is not heavy enough.

I bought this warmer to keep my chickens water to not freeze as we live In a cold climate. The first night I used it which was lastnight 11/12/23 the temperature got down to 27 degrees f. I went to check this morning and the water had froze. I used a thermal imagery to check the warmer and it was cold. I used my tester to make sure power was going to the unit and it was. This was useless as it didn't work for even the first night. Wouldn't recommend it if you need something reliable. ... show more

Got this to help keep the water from freezing. I am using a rubber dish on mine. When I got it, it was freezing at night. (A few weeks ago). And now it's in the 40's and almost x-mas. January is usually our coldest month. Will see how it holds up.

We were skeptical but it's been 3 weeks and we haven't had frozen chicken water. We are using our standard plastic chicken waterer, we have it plugged into a GFI outlet and the unit is sitting on a rim, with the waterer on it. This way everything is elevated.
