That is exactly how we evaluate any new purchase for our kitchen: is it counter-worthy? The Chefman electric tea kettle is, in our opinion, definitely that. We make slow pour coffee in a French press every morning, which means, first of all, that water must be heated, and we were using a regular tea kettle on a gas stove. Took about 14 minutes to get to the proper brewing temp, and then ANOTHER 4 minutes or so to brew in the carafe. That is a LOOOONG time to wait in the morning for a cup of joe. Well, this electric kettle cuts that time in half, and allows me to dial-in the precise water temperature. The bright colored LEDs let me know the status of the water, so no more guessing. It's quite attractive as well (we got the moss green version, which goes perfectly in our kitchen color scheme). Easy to clean (even though all we do is boil water, not brew tea in it). I wasn't expecting much from this, it had been suggested I get a higher-priced one, but I didn't want to spend the money just then. It's turned out to be an excellent value, it works fine, is reasonably fast, and so far is holding up very well.

Great product! The only slight downside is that the green color I purchased came in a lot darker than in the picture. Still pretty though! More micca forest green than a light green as pictured. I like that it keeps my tea warm for an hour and also times brewing at 3 minutes. Boils water extremely fast too! ... show more

it does the job. perfect 170 and 10-15 minute steep for yerba mate since it floats in the steeper more than other teas but it does a great job, still trying to find that sweet spot. brews fast and the tea taste way better than being brewed in a coffee maker.

    • The handle is a bit of an issue with me.

First the negatives. Warm does not keep the water at the last tea temp. It does cool quite a bit at times. So, maybe mine doesn't work right, because if I hit the start for the last tea temp, it has to heat up again. Also, I have trouble taking off the handle of the infuser. I have arthritis and it's difficult for me to remove and get back on. If I leave it on, then when I put in the tea, it will bounce off the handle and make a little mess. If I leave it on when dumping the leaves, the handle catches some. My removal of the handle makes cleaning an issue too, so I have to remove the handle. My previous Chefman electric kettle didn't have the handle, but a wider lip making all the above a non-issue. I had it for years and loved it. That was the reason I stayed with the brand. However, when this one stops working, the infuser design will be the deciding factor. If you are not concerned about the infuser handle getting in the way, you will love this. Quick heating of the water is great. The temperature control is wonderful. Talk about making a difference in the tea taste. I thought I enjoyed the taste of the tea before, this elevates the tastes of any tea. I just pick the type of tea I'm using, (green, herbal, oolong) and press start. It beeps when ready and then holds the temperature. The timer would be great, but I don't steep the tea in the kettle because we don't always want the same types of tea. I have different herbal teas and we each have our preferred teas. I prefer to steep in our mugs or a teapot for when I need larger amounts. This also helps reduce the amount of times I need to wash the kettle. If you use a French Press, this is great as you can set the water to heat to 200 and the water at that temperature does a wonderful job of getting the grounds to bloom. So, I'm thrilled with the results of my coffee as well. Hot cocoa is best at 170 for us. Higher than that and it can scald the powder milk (if you use a brand or recipe with powder milk). To make powder broth soups, we find the setting of 200 to be pretty good for us. If the creamy soup powder contains real dairy, then under 180 would do well. Amazing how versatile this product is by the temperature control settings of heating water. Even with the negatives I listed, I feel spoiled with this tea pot because it doesn't "burn" delicate or green teas, but it can still ... show more

Programmable temperature for various types of tea. Pot lifts from base for ease of use. LED light ring in bottom of kettle indicates status - blue for power on, red for heating, green for heating complete. It can be used just to boil water, or with the steeping tube attached to the lid, tea can be prepared directly in the kettle. I found the steeping tube very easy to remove and replace, contrary to several reviews that indicated difficulty with same. The kettle's 1500 watt heater heats a full charge of water quite rapidly - in 3 1/2 to 4 minutes. An LED temperature indicator shows the temperature as the kettle heats. Kettle is boro-silicate thermal glass with stainless steel trim and is an attractive addition to our kitchen. Finally, this kettle is very reasonably priced. My wife and son, who are tea buffs, both love it. ... show more
