  • FANTASTIC Sprayer Saves LOTS of Time, Works Great!
Style: 15 Gallon ATV Sprayer
I have areas around my acreage of which herbicide is key to keeping down unwanted vegetation. I previously owned a battery-powered backpack sprayer - cheap Chinese stuff that doesn't last long (have owned two of them). My backpack sprayer was only four gallons, and also had quit working, so I decided 1) I was tired of unreliability and 2) I was tired of having to repeatedly mix more herbicide. The 97300 is fantastic! I was contemplating the cheaper model (97200) - which is $20 cheaper - DON'T buy it! This (97300) comes with MUCH better sprayer, that has brass fittings. Not sure if the hose is of better quality? Why roam Lowe's trying to find the right fitting sprayer parts, wasting gas and time - just get this model instead! REMEMBER: The attachment straps, battery attachment wires, and instructions are shipped INSIDE the tank. I was already getting ticked off, thinking there had been a packing error - until I read the sticker label that indicated where those things were - dumb, I know. Tips: Make sure you check the tightness of all screws, clamps, etc. before using. I had one leakage at the pump - simply tightened and it was perfect. Absolutely NO dripping or leaks to worry about! The straps that come with it - depending upon whether or not you have a shelf-type location to attach it - will be of little use if you have no sold base or underneath it or pull cart upon which to set the unit. My lawn tractor (a Craftsman) only has, behind the seat, two bars upon which my bagger's pop-up cover fits. So, what I did was use about three different tie-downs, strategically going around the recessed grooves on the tank ends, AND I also found it key to stabilize in place the left to right movement of the tank - by strapping it to underneath my tractor seat. Otherwise, without the vertical left side and right side stabilizations AND the horizontal left-to-right stabilization, the tank can rotate, drop down, and fall to the side. I also put little plastic end cover caps over the bagger top inserts - which is where I rest the tank. The vertical left and right ties were secured (Left side) to my blade height slots, and (Right side) to the opening for the reverse pedal. So, it's a bit of a jerry-rig, but it works quite well, in keeping the tank stable. Plus they are easy to remove when desired. I love the long hose. I love not having to refill too often. I think it's easier to use over a large area by using a long stream and panning the spray want rapidly back and forth - that is, as opposed to getting much closer to mist everything - plus, I think it's a bit of overkill to fine mist everything - not to mention a waste of product. You don't have to saturate everything you put herbicide on, plus I think using a rapid stream, at a distance, makes it easier to keep track of where you've already sprayed. I simply coil the extra hose length around the sprayer. I mostly just slowly ride and spray. I would say I can easily spray 20 feet - maybe more if I adjust the water pressure? And I used to be hyper fanatic about spraying at the edges of my grass - trying to have an almost slow drip so as to not kill grass. But If found that, if you have a steady hand, setting the wand to a finely beaded stream, you can go back and forth along an edge fairly safely, with next to no overspray - or if there is a tiny bit, it's unlikely to do more than slightly brown the very edge of the grass. Another great feature is that the pump has an agitator. Yes, you do need to mix your herbicide before putting it in the tank. But the agitator means that it will stay properly mixed and won't settle too much. The pump is fairly quiet - plus, you'll never hear it over the lawn tractor. It has a convenient on/off switch - just don't forget to turn it off and kill your battery. However, with your tractor switched off, you'll hear the pump if it's still on. The wire connecting the alligator clip to your tractor battery is plenty long and easy to attach. Yes, the last half gallon (or less) in the tank cannot be accessed by the internal tank feeder hose, so you won't be able to utilize that. However, this will only be an issue on your last tankful you spray. The biggest thing is that I can see so many uses for this thing - putting out tick and insect spray. Bleaching things. It has already saved me a TON of time, and made a chore I despise FAR easier. I only gave this four stars as I think they might it might have a more effective strap/attachment system. Of course, having the perfect solution for everyone's individual mounting situation would be difficult to achieve. And tie-downs or bungy chords are cheap. But as for the sprayer, its quality, operation, and the smoothness of the pump: FIVE Stars! I have not made any adjustments at the tank as to water pressure. Having a gauge is very nice - no guesswork on the pressure level. ... show more

  • Pretty good ATV sprayer - much better than a backpack sprayer
Style: 15 Gallon ATV Sprayer
I'm getting old and I have a back injury, and I can't exactly carry around a backpack sprayer anymore. This sprayer works great for me, and it's wonderful that I don't have to pump a handle thing to make it go. It's light enough that I can easily set it in the back of Lil' Pony (my pickup). I've ran it off of my truck battery with jumper cables, but it's easier to put an extra battery in the back of my truck. The hose and wand seem sturdy and professional, and the nozzle can be adjusted from a fine mist that sprays out about 2 feet, to a stream that shoots out about 12 feet (30 feet is advertised). The pump seems powerful enough, it's super quiet, it only comes on when it needs to make pressure (not just when the trigger is pulled like some reviews say), and it doesn't get hot. There's a T connector that can send the flow to a wand or a boom. The power cord has an on/off switch, a quick disconnect, a fuse, and clamps to connect it to a battery. Overall I'm pretty satisfied, but there's a couple things that aren't great. 1) The biggest problem is the drain. I can't get the plug screwed on right, and it just pulls right off. It seems like it wasn't threaded right, or one or both pieces are the wrong size. So I thought I would just use a rubber stopper, but that leaked as well. The inside of the drain is all torn and mangled, so it can't make a seal. I tried wrapping the threads in teflon tape, but that didn't help. I tried wrapping the drain in plastic, and securing it with a rubber band, and then a zip tie, and of course it leaked. Just so I could get spraying, I duct taped it shut, and that worked pretty well. Unless I can figure out how to inexpensively rethread the drain, I'll probably just epoxy it shut and turn the tank upside down when I need to drain it, or epoxy on a real valve. I don't want to send it back. I tried that once with a camera. I know it's set up to be easy, but in my case it was a small nightmare. 2) Unless you want to experiment with different amounts of teflon tape, or unless you just get lucky, you won't be able to screw on the pressure gauge to a position that makes sense. 3) The tank came with a bunch of plastic chunks in it, presumably debris from drilling out the holes for the plumbing. 4) The intake is on the end of a hose that's a little stiff and curves up from the bottom of the tank. I solved the problem by threading the hose through a small dumbbell weight. 5) It would be nice if the legs of the tank extended a half inch lower so that the entire weight of the tank doesn't sit on the drain plug. If I put on a real drain valve, I'll probably put some feet on the tank too. 6) Care should be taken when screwing on the pressure gauge and the boom valve, as well as when tightening the hose clamp on the wand hose. I was worried I was going to crack or break something, or at the least, cause a leak like the one I saw in one review. There seems to be one weak(ish) point holding the whole assembly together. ... show more

  • Chapin 97300 15-Gallon 12v Deluxe Dripless EZ mount ATV Spot Sprayer
Style: 15 Gallon ATV Sprayer
The little assembly that was required was accomplished without a problem. It is located the bed of my Polaris ranger and the straps for attaching to an ATV is not needed in my case. I also purchased (on Amazon also) the Master 33-103260-CSK Wire Harness with Quick and Easy Connection DC Plug which makes it possible to plug in the lighter receptacle for power. The tank is made of durable polycarbon. However, all other parts are light weight plastic which will give a nervous feeling that you may break them when handling. I've used only twice so far and it has sprayed well without any connections leaking. The pressure valve cavitates when you are not spraying so the proper pressure can only be set when spraying. The most troublesome thing I've experienced is that the suction/solution pick up hose floats at the top of the liquid in the tank instead of resting at bottom of tank. Therefore when the tank gets down to about 5 gallons, the suction hose does not pick up any solution in the tank. So I've got to figure out away to keep the pickup hose at bottom of tank. As it works now, I can only spray about 10 of the 15 gallons in the tank. Having to recover and store 5 gallons of solution is very inconvenient and adds time to the task at hand. ... show more
