  • Chapin Salt Spreader: Designed for professional or contractor ice melt and salt, although remains a top choice for homeoweners. The 80 lb rust-resistant broadcast spreader is weather-resistant, has a blue poly hopper and a rugged, plastic spiked auger breaks up and limits clumps from clogging the gate opening while spreading
  • How to Use and Convenience: Adjustable front and side baffles allow for precise control of spread pattern allowing you to change the gate opening (lever) based on your particulates. The Spreader is recommended for use with salt, halite, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride and calcium chloride (small and pelletized particulates)
  • Comfort and Control: This spreader has an ergonomic, solid linkage T-Shaped Handle with grips and full bar gate lever control, making it easy to use and has a comfortable grip even with gloves, while the rain and snow cover keeps your hopper protected while you are working
  • Components: It is supported by a powder-coated steel frame, while the 12" wide tread pneumatic tires provide traction when moving over snow and icy ground and enclosed metal alloy gears makes it weather resistant and great for ice melt, halite and smaller particulates
  • Chapin Guarantee: This spreader is backed by Chapins 2-year limited warranty and supported by a dedicated US-based customer service and technical help centre

  • Works great - poor instructions
Works great but the instructions need words not just pictures, some thing we're not in apicture and left to your best guess but other than that it works great and appears to be decent quality.

  • An Absolute Beast — Perfect for in Our Parking Lot to Keep Everyone Safe
I ordered this salt spreader for work, and she’s a beast. (Let's be honest, I'm too cheap to spend this type of money for home use!) Last year they spread by hand and we still have dead grass from their miss-application mistakes. Assembly did take 3-people an hour and I heard a lot of cussing. They said the directions were not clear at all. We used her on the parking lot during Snowmegeden on the East Coast, and she handled the job well. We have never closed for bad weather and must keep the employees safe. The spread is wide and consistent, and the hopper holds enough material that you’re not constantly stopping to refill. The materials are thick and high quality and she looks industrial. The included cover kept the ice melt from getting wet and clumping when it was still snowing. The build feels solid, and the wheels roll smoothly even when the hopper is full. It’s easy to push, and the controls are straightforward, which matters when you’re out in the cold trying to get the job done quickly. If you need something that can cover a large area and actually stand up to real use—not just a small driveway—this spreader delivers. It made a noticeable difference in how quickly and evenly we could treat the lot and saved on the cost of ice melt. A great investment for anyone maintaining a bigger property or workplace. ... show more

  • Need Auger Part? Mfr out of stock this winter.
This is the best salt spreader brand you can buy. Works great until small plastic part breaks. "Ok, I can call the manufacturer parts department", you say. They won't have restock until May. Find part elsewhere online. Assembly is not quick, but it's solid once built. Overall great product, minus manufacturer direct parts being shorthanded until spring. ... show more

  • Go elsewhere, this has a lot of issues. It’ll work but it’s a pain
Box came with loose parts rattling around inside. Instructions were fine but not as clear as they could’ve been. Auger broke first time I used it so I’ve gotta get a new one. There are also quite a few extra parts left in the box and within the parts pack. After reviewing the instructions 7-8 times I’m sure I used all the pasts they mention. For $300 I’m truly upset about how this played out. It will probably last a few years but just know that it’s not the best one it there. I’ve got buyers remorse for sure. ... show more

  • Finally a spreader that actually holds up through a full winter
I've gone through two cheap spreaders in three years, so I finally decided to invest in something built for the job. Got this Chapin 80 lb spreader in the middle of December, and honestly, I'm kicking myself for not buying it sooner. The first thing I noticed was how solid it feels. The size is more for commercial use, but you can definitely handle it. The build quality is excellent. The powder-coated steel frame doesn't flex or wobble like the flimsy ones I had before, and the poly hopper looks like it can take a beating without cracking. The tires were a game-changer — no more struggling to push through packed snow or icy patches on my driveway. They grip really well. One thing I really appreciate is the spiked plastic auger inside the hopper. I use calcium chloride pellets, and clumping has always been a headache with other spreaders. This one breaks it up before it even reaches the gate, so you get a consistent spread every time. The adjustable baffles also let you dial in exactly how wide or narrow you want the pattern — super useful when you're spreading close to flower beds or a car. I love that it comes with a 2-year warranty. I will strongly recommend it. Excellent value for the money. ... show more

  • Great to have!
This Chapin 88300B SaltPro walk-behind spreader works great and has become a total time saver for our yard and driveway needs. It's designed primarily for ice melt and salt, but you don't have to limit it to that—it's super versatile for spreading fertilizer, grass seed, or other granular materials evenly and quickly. We already have a hand-crank broadcast spreader, and while it gets the job done, oh my god it takes forever to cover any decent area. Switching to this wheeled version turns the whole process into a breeze—you just push it along, adjust the flow rate with the lever controls, and cover large sections fast without arm fatigue or uneven distribution. The spiked auger keeps material flowing smoothly even with chunkier stuff, and the adjustable baffles help control the spread pattern precisely. Assembly is required—it went together in under 30 minutes without major hassle. The build feels super high-quality: rust-resistant poly hopper, sturdy frame, enclosed gears, 12" pneumatic tires that roll easily over grass/snow/ice, and a weather-resistant design with a rain cover to protect your product. As long as you take care of it (clean after use, store dry), this thing should easily last years. Great value for homeowners or anyone who deals with seasonal spreading—reliable, efficient, and way better than manual options. 5 stars—highly recommend! ... show more

  • Works Great Once Assembled, Assembly Takes Patience
This spreader works great and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Once it’s up and running, it spreads salt and ice melt evenly and smoothly, and it handles larger areas without any trouble. It feels solid, rolls well, and the adjustable controls make it easy to dial in how much material you want coming out. That said, putting it together was a super pain. Assembly took longer than expected and definitely tested my patience. The instructions could be clearer, and it’s not something you breeze through quickly. If you’re not a fan of assembly, be prepared to take your time. After getting past that part, though, it’s been very reliable. The tires roll well, the enclosed design helps keep material contained, and it feels like it’s built for real work, not light-duty use. Overall, it performs really well and gets the job done. Just know that the setup is the hardest part — once that’s over, it’s smooth sailing. ... show more
