Description

Chapin’s 8700A chest-mounted turf spreader is designed for smaller lawns and spaces, food plots, and gardens. It’s easy to maneuver in tight spaces and inclines, where a broadcast or drop spreader just can’t go. The 680 cubic inch, translucent poly hopper is fully enclosed, making it weather-resistant to keep your product dry while working. With its EZ gate control, you have five settings so you can dial in your coverage as you need. Aim product where you need it with the directional control and adjust the side baffle to control spread width. This unit not recommended for use with salt products, sand and sand mixes.

    • POOR DESIGN/FUNCTIONALITY
If you're a lawn/pest tech no need reading any further. I tried this item after issues with the Solo chest spreaders but it has its own issues. I recommend neither of them. With this one: 1. The directional disk also turns when you slide the lever that opens/closes the gate, rather than remain where you selected. 2. When spinning the handle to distribute fertilizer, its not a smooth operation, instead it's a rough grinding operation 3. The distributor disk as designed causes a ton of the fertilizer to fall close to you and less of it fanning out further away from you even when you turning the handle rapidly 4. Push to open/Pull to close is personally easier to operate and this is the opposite 5. Distributor disk gets stuck frequently during operation due to fertilizer getting under it 6. Very difficult to clean the agitator area inside the hopper when dust from fertilizer builds up, due to the access being in front rather than top (at first sight I liked the idea of front-load). 7. Forget about using to fertilize narrow strips or edges along concrete, too much waste Not sure where to look to now because I will not go back to Solo because of their issues ... show more

    • Fertilizing insecticide granules
Cut my time fertilizing insecticide in half easy to put on easy to walk with, but I do recommend wearing a apron sometimes does get on your shirt and pants.

    • It works
I liked the construction but it was difficult to crank the handle when running fertilizer thru it. Handle could be a little longer to help that.

This is a high quality product. It is easy to maintain spread rates. I would recommend this if you require a nice spreader.

    • Narrow broadcast
This is a marginal product at best. The handle sticks some but the bigger issue for me is with the width of the broadcast. I am spreading rye grass and can only get it to spread a 6 to 7 foot pattern. My old sack spreader doubled that before it broke. Maybe a positive would be that you will get more exercise because you have to walk a lot more to cover the same area. ... show more
