    • Decent Replacement for an Old Craftsman Garage Door Opener
I had an old Craftsman Chain Drive Garage Door Opener that had a failing logic board. It would only sporadically close the garage door with the remote even though the sensors were aligned and working. I thought about replacing the logic board until I realized that the unit was 17 years old. I decided that it was time to replace the unit. Chamberlain used to make the older Craftsman units so I looked for one that would allow me to use the old chain and rail so I could just replace the unit itself. This one fit the bill so I pulled the trigger and bought it. I was able to remove the old Craftsman unit and install the Chamberlain C2202 without issue. All of the old hardware was completely compatible. My only complaint is that the directions don't tell you that the unit will not work at all until you go through setting the door travel distance process. When I first tried the unit out it would just make a couple of clicking noises and the door wouldn't move. I thought that there was a problem with the sensors and spent a couple of hours trying to troubleshoot the door safety sensor system. After reading through the manual in frustration, I figured that I would try setting the door travel distance. Once I completed that process, everything worked as expected. In my opinion, there should be a bold statement in the directions that tells the user that the opener WILL NOT OPERATE at all until the door travel distance process is successfully completed. That alone cost this review to drop to 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that, I am happy with my purchase. ... show more
