The media could not be loaded. When cutting firewood each year I usually come across 4 - 6 logs that I set aside to rip into planks/slabs for hobby woodworking. Most of the pieces become benches, fireplace mantels or table tops. I've mostly accomplished this by borrowing another Alaska mill-type jig a couple times/year, but now have my own. Once assembled (more on that) this unit is very similar to the one I was borrowing. I do not have any logs sitting around yet but wanted to give it a try, so used it on a small piece of oak I had just cut - see video. So it works as expected - cuts nice clean level slabs. Unfortunately I was using a (very) dull chain in the video and it was a very fresh piece of oak, so the rip was going slow, and I just show the first minute. If the log had been drying for some months and the chain was sharp, I'd expect the rip to be going faster even if the log was twice as big. Assembling it takes a little time as there are quite a few pieces. And the instructions are sort of a joke - I actually did as much of the assembly by looking at the picture of the unit as by trying to figure out the instructions. They even refer to some things (like a shield) that are not included. I guess though if you're somebody that is going to be using something like this you are probably good enough with tools to figure it out. Once together it seems pretty solid and should last my lifetime with the rate I'll be using it. ... show more

Works great! Assembly instructions were vague, but the machining of the parts allowed for quick assembly. Worth the money.

    • You have to be mechanical and have the right tools
Cheap quality is not worth the money. If you do not have sufficient experience in mechanics and the necessary tools, then this device is not for you.

This product is junk, way to much wiggle, poorly engineered with the worst instructions/ pictures you can't see, skipped steps, just wasted time, you will return it...NOT recommended!!

At this price point, I was not expecting this level of component quality. It is quite robust for a small mill. Assembly was reasonable, no missing hardware. I like how you can tailor the size to match your chain saw, pretty flexible to fit most common small to mid size chain saws. Unfortunately, its built, ready to go, but my logs wont show up for another 2 weeks to start making cuts. I used one of these portable mills years ago, and it performed good enough for light duty work. If u are sawing logs all day, of course, u would want a more ideal set up. Most of the logs I cut are only 4-5ft long, so this should suffice. Will report back after my first round of cuts. But based on build quality, this mill is well worth the money IMO. ... show more

This was the cheapest mill I could find. Has the ability to size down for smaller bar size. It will only adjust to 3 inch thickness.

    • Does not cut a 36" log
Product seems to be sturdy however, description was misleading in that I thought I could cut a 36" log but I cannot, I can only cut a 31" log. There is no clearance for a 36" log. No easy instructions for installation.
